Two plus fingers worth of whipped light khaki colored froth... Excellent retention... Color wise a a caramel medium brown... Translucent with light leaking in all around... Gobs of lacing cling to the sides of the glass... Nose of toffee, brown sugar and light piney hop notes... A bit understated but rather pleasant... Things are dialed a notch (or two) on the palate... Notes of overly ripened dark fruits, pumpernickel bread, burnt sugars and light hops create good complexity with each sip... Feel is medium to full bodied... Sleek and slightly chewy... Brisk carbonation... Very nice beer... Well crafted...

Taster at brewery. Dark, clear brown pour with a ring of tan head. Light malty aroma. Taste brings notes of chocolate, woody, sweet, root beer, malty, light dryness. Not a big barleywine, but a tasty one.

Pours a clear deep mahogany color with some garnet highlights when held up to a light source. Several streams of carbonation rise to the surface and a soft fluffy 2 cm of khaki colored foam rests on the surface. This foam is fading quickly to a sturdy edge layer and some wispy islands.
The aroma on this beer is some caramel and a bit of toffee with some mild citrus hops but more of a grassy or herbal hop hit. Overall the aroma is mild but appealing. No hint of the higher ABV in this one at the nose.
The first sip reveals a lighter body than I expected and very smooth texture with fine tingly carbonation. This beer drinks very easy for the size of the beer.
Flavor is similar to the nose, I get some caramel and toffee mixing with a bit of citrusy hops and also a bit of herbal tea that lingers on the finish. The beer also dries out my palate after each sip.
The booze is well hidden and I find my glass getting empty much quicker than I anticipated when I opened it.
Im glad to got to try this one, and thanks to my brother Brian for bringing it up here for me from the brewery!

12oz pour into a tulip at the brewery last Friday.
Notes from the website " What if? It's a question we often ask around here. What if Perpetual IPA were a sort of dirty blonde barleywine? What if we toned down the bitterness, but turned up the sticky citrus notes? Enter Perpetual Darkness, a hoppy candy bar of a beer gone wild with a sticky body and a herbal resiny finish".
Looks pretty damn fine, brownish body with faint red notes. Decent off white head and lacing.
some slight sweetness and toffee on the nose.
Oh, liking this one. I'm getting the mild hop bitterness, and all the sweet and hoppy flavors blend very nicely indeed. the abv seems way lower than listed, so best be careful here.
Close to full on the mouth, warm, sweet, and mildly bitter on the finish.
All in all, a very interesting and enjoyable brew. nicely blends the concepts of their Perpetual with notes of both English and American style barleywines. Definitely recommended. Hopefully this one becomes something of a regular.
