Paid $25 for the mixed case...

The beer pours a light amber colored base, medium white head, solid retention and a few lines of lacing effects. Not much of an aroma, faint whiff of malts.

The taste is surprisingly sweet and light on malts. May be a little sweet for some but it tastes great to me. Nice on the mouth but nothing spectacular. Very drinkabilr but after two, the sweet malt taste will be wanting to try a different or fallback brew.

Final Thought: Not enough for the "Bavarian" label and too sweet for a German beer; however, I still like this as an American beer imitating a German...

Pours a nice amber color with light fluffy head that is gone pretty quickly, not much aroma here a little fruity and malty sweet but real slight.Taste is bready and fruity very appetizing with some not to sweet caramel flavor not much in the way of hops but there is a little tinge in the finish.A nice appetizing beer I didnt expect it to be a marzen style but thats fine with me.

I am not a big lager fan and prefer dark beers in general. This Troegs poured reddish brown with a creamy head with an incredibly short retention. Very light aroma, there is both the scent and taste of raspberry which I found surprising for this brew. There is a good amount of carbination. Nice light malty flavor. Smooth, light, crisp mouthfeel. Good drinkability, good session beer.

This is from a sampler case I bought at the Beer Mart in Reading. Date is clearly marked on the case! (YAY!)

Pours a very clear light orange with a two finger head of just off-white foam. The head drops to a good coating and a ring, with great lacing on the glass. You can count every sip! Looks fairly highly carbonated.

Aroma is caramely bready malts, pleasant, with a good hint of spicy hops. Smells clean. The bready malt smell increases as it warms.

First flavor is sweet caramel, followed by pils malt and light spicy hops. It's well balanced, with just the right amount of bitterness. Aftertaste dries out the longer it gets. Refreshing beer.

Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, despite the spritzy nature of the carbonation, although carbonation cleans your tongue in the finish.

I guess this is supposed to compete with Yuengling Lager, but it's so much better that I doubt the people who drink YL don't even know this exists. A mighty fine example of the style.

Pours a clear amber with a thick taupe head. Lots of retention and lacing.

Smells quite caramely, with a oaty background.

Tastes nice and buttery up front with a big rush of diacetyl and caramel malt. Turns a bit nutty like a mrzen should, then finishes dry with just a wisp of hop.

Nice easy mouthfeel. Doesn't try to overwhelm you.

Superb in it's simplicity. This is a good Marzen lager. This a beer I'd use to introduce a someone to craft brews.

Pours a light shade of amber crystal clear with a cream thicket of head sitting on top of the body, not very resilliant head quickly begins to disappear with trickled lacing appearing sporatically. Aroma is slightly metallic with mild tones of roasted vienna malts and a nice in the background floral hop aroma teasing the nose. Taste consists of a nutty flavor that works well with the mild bitterness reminds me of Railbender Ale from Erie Brewing co. There is also a buttery sweet tone almost caramel working it's way in there, but overall this beer lacks to shock and awe or even impress me for that matter. Seems a like a beer brewed to serve for someone who thinks Yuengling is the alpha and the omega. Good but nothing to write home about with a thinner light body and decent carbonation not too much sets this apart from a macro. Pretty drinkable but doesn't touch the Hopback so, I will go on to try another beer and not even think twice about ordering this one again.

Very dark, almost-copper amber. The short, foamy, off-white head holds well but eventually drops to a thin collar. The nose offers a softly sweet and lightly toasty malt (Vienna?) backed by fresh, floral hops (Hallertauer?). The body is medium with a fine, median carbonation that caresses the tongue before becoming smooth and creamy across the palate. The flavor expresses the maltiness indicated by the aroma - juicy, mildly fruity, softly sweet and lightly toasty - combined with a mildly floral hop flavor and delicately balancing bitterness. It finishes drying with lingering notes of toasty malt, floral hops and restrained bitterness. Really well balanced and quite quaffable. Readily accessible, but with enough character to keep the beer afficianados interested.

Boldly crisp, clean and fresh. Rich Munich maltiness and spicy Hallertau hops. Delicate sweetness. Strange but good malt aftertaste. Medium light body. Finishes full and spicy with cottony malts. Nice Marzen.

Troegs lager: Nice looking amber beer, with a very creamy white head, nice lacing. The aroma is very clean, with hints of malt and a little bit of toast. Lightly malted lager beer, with a crisp sting of hops, nicely balanced. The predominant tastes are the Vienna style malts (which always seemed to me to be not unlike the least cinnamon-ny piece of cinnamon toast in a loaf of cinnamon bread). The hops are not distinguished, but they help to clean it all up. Fairly highly carbonated. Nice.

A decent lager. Malty nose with a medium amber colr and very little head and lacing. Taste is mainly sweet malt, but a light hop finish is nice. Medium mouthfeel with a tad of oiliness that keeps it from being crisp. Easy enough on the drinkability scale...I'm not a huge lager fan, but I would have another one for sure.

This is a great session brew. It's golden orange with an off white head, very attractive lager. There is a nice hefty malt aroma that is very inviting, along with some mild hopping. Taste starts of with a mild caramel maltiness & breadiness and finishes up with a nice english style bitterness. When I see a beer that's just called "Lager", I don't expect it to be this good. Maybe that's why it's categorized differently here. Very drinkable and refreshing, while staying fairly interesting at the same time. Good quaffable beer, without skimping out on the taste

This one is a nice brew overall, but probably ends up being my least favourite of the Troegs family that I've sampled thusfar. Part of it is tat I'm not a huge fan of the style, the other part is that it tends to be a tad thin at times.

It pours a decnt though non spectacular amber colour with a bubbly, choppy off white head that kleaves a moderate amount of residue on the glass.

The smell is a touch floral, caramel-esque and malty. Basic but good.

The flavour is very similar to the smell but there is more of a hop kick to it. Not a huge hop kick by any means but a nice one nonetheless. The middle and finish are a bit creamy and a touch bread like at the same time...again, this one is basic but works.

The mouthfeel is spot on and it's an easy drinking brew, but it's just so basic. That said, Troegs brews one of the better basic lagers around.

Out of the bottle it's a very nice clear copper with a giant head that dissapears to a nice collor. Great lacing on the glass. Smells of sweet, toasted malts with a floral hoppy back. Tastes nice and malty, almost like fruit juice, with a well balanced hop finish. The flavor is a bit weak though. The tastes don't jump out and grab you like other Troegs offerings. It's also weak in the mouth. But alas it is a very drinkable beer. Definitly recommended.

The pour a clear amber color, the head impressive, then fades to bit of surface scum. The lace in skimpy clumps on the sides of the glass. Nose is malt, lightly sweet, clean and crisp. Front is malt, lightly sweet, the top flimsy, the finish has appropriate hops, modestly acidic, and a somewhat dry aftertaste. Drinkable, average at best, not anything to get excited about. Ranks #982 on my current 1000 beer master list

Pours a strange yellowish amber orange color with a nice foamy off white head, that falls to a a thin layer that looks as if there little chunks floating in the middle, could it be the bread I smell? Smells of light malts with bread smell dominating with slight smell of hops.Tastes of malt a little sweet with a tange of hops tingling the tounge as it flows on by, nice clean and refreshing finish. Not much of lager person, except for american sweet oct-feast beers, but this is not a bad little lager a nice change of pace from my usual ale selection.

Medium amber in color (reddish tones come through nicely in good light), with a very small head which quickly fades away. Smells sweet with bready, doughy, and malty aromas. A light to mild taste matches the smell--sweetness and malt flavors primarily. Nearly no aftertaste at all. This is a very average beer, it certainly isn't bad, but probably is not something I'll be having again in the future.

On tap at Ale Mary's in Fells Point. It poured a copper color with mild amber highlights. Faint off-white head died quickly. Minimal lacing.
Sweet malts and floral hops on the nose
Smooth and creamy session beer with a nice medium mouthfeel and excellent carbonation. Malts linger in your mouth afterward.
Dangerously drinkable, very tasty marzen.

Appearance-amber copper color with a nice frothy head, lace sticks, impressive.

Smell- a lot of grain, lots of sweet malt, some hops, very good, not overbearing.

Taste-full for a lager, maybe thats a minus on some points but its good for me, hops come out more, malt balances with a tad of extra sweetness. A little grainy but exceptional.

Mouthfeel-again a little full for a lager, but quite flavorful and balanced. all flavored lagers should be like this.

Drinkability-fantastic, for a lager you just can't get anymore flavorful, if you can't handle it then go take your Coors Light!! I, for one, will have this.

Overall-I think they hit the style fairly well, a nice lager with a decent amount of hops and exceptional malt balance. To any drinker, give it a shot, it's well worth it and has twice the kick of any lager, would love to see this in mainstream circles, Troegs does it again.

Appearance: Sparkling clear orange-gold with a nice head that laced in sheets.

Smell: Malt dominates, with a sweetness highly reminiscent of a bag of freshly-crushed Munich malts. Smells almost like sweet feed, with a sticky molasses-like sweetness.

Taste: Very interesting beer. Definitely a Märzen, but with very dry leanings. Sweet malts hit up front, with a nice creamy mouthfeel. Spicy hops are very, very present, and linger long after the swallow. Quite drinkable, with a clean, dry finish.

Part of the Troegs variety 12 pack. Pours a crystal clear amber color with a nice 1" tan head. Some spotty lacing developed. Carbonation levels seemed a bit low. The aroma was of mild malt and lightly musky. The flavor was laid back but interesting as malt, caramel, hint of spiciness and decent bitterness made a refreshing brew.

The mouthfeel lightly crisp and smooth at the start, and finished dry with a bit of tingling on the tongue. Nicely drinkable and this is a nice session beer that has a simple enjoyable flavor.

Little to no aroma, but I did perceive a slight sweetness. The brew was a nice orange with a thick tan head that came from very good carbonation. Fairly bland flavor with some roast malt, a slight sweetness, and a very soft hint of fruit. Pretty ok, but easy drinking.

I anticipated Troegs Bavarian Lager to taste more...uh...European. What I actually experienced during this tasting reminded me more of an American amber lager. A slightly reddish, amber color poured from the bottle, with no lacing and a minimal head that diminished rather quickly. I detected a rather weak malty odor at first, but a faint alcohol smell, and a little more complexity, mixed with the malt as time went on. A rather American and indistinctive lager taste was apparent, with only a slightly sweeter ending and aftertaste. The taste was good overall, but a little disappointing for a Bavarian/Vienna style. A medium to light body made the mouthfeel of this beer rather unexceptional. Troegs Bavarian Lager remains a decent beer, and makes for a pretty good session of drinking if it's on hand. While I expected a little less American taste and influence, this beer was not a terrible brew overall.

12 oz bottle served chilled in a pint glass.

Appearance: Nice hearty orange amber topped by a yellowed head which is nice and rocky. Visible carbonation at first, which helps in retaining a film of bubbles that leaves modest amounts of lacing on the glass.

Smell: Light smell of caramel malt. Faintly aromatic hops.

Taste: Mildly sweet caramel malt with a nice nutty finish. Hops are nice and subtle and support the malt.

Mouthfeel: Light in body. Nice, crisp, and refreshing.

Drinkability: Nice session beer. A robust and malty lager. Quite nice and I'm glad to see I need not wait for the fall to get my märzen on.
