Notes: When we make our annual pilgrimage to the hop-growing hotbed of Yakima Valley, we’re like kids in a candy store. We eyeball the hops on the bines, crush them in our hands and rub them til their oils fill the air. LolliHop brings together three of our favorites. Dry-hopping with Citra and Mosaic layers in notes of orange, grapefruit and melon, while Azacca in the kettle adds hints of papaya and pineapple. Locally harvested rustic pale malt provides the backbone, and wheat and oats make this beer silky smooth with a touch of haze.

We taste: pear, citrus, hint of melon.

Crisp yellow and slightly transparent with a foamy white nose that has nice lacing as it disappates down the glass. A little bit of that cat pee smell on the nose, touch of citrus. Overall not packing too much of a punch in the nose department. Citrusy notes up front in the flavor, a little bit of dank resiny flavors backing that up. Under the distinctly northwest hop flavor is some orange and a sweetness that helps with some balance. The body is a little light for the hop profile and tends to sway the balance away from the center and towards being overhopped. I think it would be a little more of a sipper if the malt bill had a bit more umph to it. That said, the hop profile is pretty nice and never steers towards overly bitter. Finishes a little wet rather than dry, and tends to linger a touch longer than it should. Could use a bit sweeping carbonation to pull it together. I think the balance of this beer is a little off, but the hop flavors do come through nicely

Look: Slightly hazy tangerine gold. 1 inch of creamy foam head. Poor retention some lacing . Very tiny bubbles.
Smell: Floral on opening the can, then there is citrus and pale pilsner malt.
Taste: Sweetness of the tip of the tongue gives way a variety of flavors. More soft citrus than harsh citrus, plenty of orange, pineapple, red grapefruit, some papaya, pear and melon. I did not pick up many of these when sniffing but these aromas are present when you drink it. I like the surprise factor. The flavor (I define flavor as aroma + taste) really blossoms when the beer is in the mouth.
Feel: Feels light, brightly effervescent and somewhat sharp. Kind of sweet on the back end.
Overall: A solid Imperial IPA. I will drink this again. After drinking the fourth can of the four-pack, I can say the taste holds up well. I am not getting tired of this beer, just the opposite in fact, the more of these I drink, the more I like them.

Poured into a goblet: color is slightly hazy gold, moderate carbonation, brighter white head with fine to small bubbles that presents 1/2 inch thick, good lingering top and some lacing on the glass sides.

Smell is slow to start with notes of melon, lemon, herbs and pine, light toasted malt hints of pilsner like quality , zero hint at the strength. Aromas amplify with a few degrees of warmth.

Taste brings forth great dipa qualities with fresh hop spin: lemon, melon, some pineapple and papaya, grapefruit rind as well, malt is light, some bread, some pilsner like toast. Hop flavor comes back around at the finish and seems more herbal and bitter, quite pleasant and necessary to counter the strength of this ale.

Mouthfeel is moderately carbonated, light sweetness, strong bitter finish that is pleasantly drying on the tongue.

Overall a good DIPA with some well thought out hop aromas and flavors, some nice herbal and lemony qualities to the hops that play really well with the dry, bitter finish with light sweetness in the flavor and feel.

L- golden-straw in color, partly hazy but not at all opaque. fluffy white head that settles very slowly; maintains a nice lacing throughout. looks excellent.

S- fruity-hop forward nose; mostly melon, pineapple. a bit of pine.

T- starts off with fruity hops again, more pineapple just a bit of the melon I mentioned earlier. no pine to speak of, very little "dankness". very light malt body. something about this just feels "empty", like it's missing an extra grain or maybe a nice hop like simcoe that would bring the heat. personal perference; this is just not really anything special. slightly boozey. pretty disappointing, to be honest.

M- despite the beautiful head and good carbonation levels, the mouthfeel leaves much to be desired. slightly slick and thin feeling....i feel like the 8.2% abv isn't doing many favors here. average at best.

O- it's a boozy, nouveau-hop forward DIPA. if you dig light, fruity DIPAs then you'll like this. personally when i'm drinking a 8.2% DIPA i look for a fuller malt body.

LolliHop is as good this year as ever. Pours a nice golden color with just the slightest haze that doesn't obscure visibility through the glass. Ripe citrus and melon flavors in the nose, taste follows very closely but isn't sweet in the slightest and packs a delicious hop kick with substantial bitterness that doesn't overpower the fruit flavors. Mouthfeel is incredibly smooth, silky and pillowy. Great beer bordering on outstanding.

This Lollihop pours a lighter shade of orange juice with a short lived thin head. The aroma is of funky orange, grapefruit and pineapple juice. Not sweet or bitter. Really nice drinkable mouthfeel. Yummy, pour some more. Overall I could be fooled into believing this is a light beer version of an IPA. An excellent brew so easy to gulp down. Super job Troegs! Poured from a 16 ounce can dated "Freshest by 07/15/2020" Special Thanks to @jzeilinger for another outstanding Pennsylvania beer. The hits just keep on coming!

If they retired this beer it must have just happened since my can says best by 7-15-2020 and it’s a double IPA. Pours a nice somewhat hazy golden orange color with a decent off white head this looks good. The scent of this brew just drips with tropical fruits and citrus. Flavorful and the nose comes through on the taste but leaves me wanting more, I think I’m looking for a bit more sticky sweetness were this is a bit dry and slightly bitter. Decent either way. Also really nice smooth creamy feel to this brew. I’m surprised this beer isn’t rated higher.

A - Medium golden orange color with thin creamy lacing, a slight bit hazy, and steady carbonation.

S - Citrus, grapefruit, and melon on the nose with a slight bit of citric pungency.

T - Flavor follows right behind the nose. Citrus, grapefruit, orange, melon, papaya, pineapple, citrus rind, and tad bit of spiciness. Ends balanced with just the right amount of citrus bitterness and sweetness.

M - Thick and "pillowy" with some carbonated pricklies.

O - A very nice IPA, how did I miss this one last year?

Tried this at Eli Cannon's in Middletown, CT. Came in a tulip glass with about a quarter inch of head, leaving behind a thin blanket of lacing. The color is a nice opaque golden and the aroma is all citrus. The taste is citrus, but a little too sweet for me. Still it holds up as a good dipa.

Poured a golden orange body with minimal head and lace patches down the glass. The aroma is fruity (like papaya) with some floral hoppiness and touches of malts. Smooth, a little fluffy, has a mild hop bitterness with some juicy mango sweetness and clean finish.

On tap at the brewery Friday lunchtime.

Slightly hazy yellow body, small white head leaving a little lacing.

Nice aroma of melon and non citrus fruit.

Taste follows the nose. The hop bite is light. Good solid malt background. Non citrus fruit taste overall

Mouth between medium and full, finish is a melon wash with a nice hop bite ending.

Overall, a tasty lower abv DIPA, good balance and easy to drink.

Poured into a pint glass. A slightly hazy golden color with a two-finger white head. Nice staying power.
Aroma: tropical fruit, mango, blueberry, orange, some resin. The Mosaic notes were front and center.
Taste: as expected from the aroma. Very bright and intense fruity notes. Tropical with more subtle citrus. Dry and bready malt presence.
Feel: medium bodied and carbed. Very drinkable.
Overall: delicious.

T - Follows the nose well, no big shift from that aromatic.
M - A bit slick, semi sweet start, hop bitterness rolls in and finish is tropical
O - A very good IPA, with the base solid enough to keep up with the hops

From the growler, it pours a clear golden amber with a large white head that very slowly diminishes as you watch. In the nose, it is a bit of citrus, although somewhat light. In the mouth, it is smooth and a bit velvety, although not overly hoppy. Dangerously easy to drink for an IPA!

Tröegs Brewing Co. "Lollihop"
16 fl. oz. can, "FRESHEST BY 07/11/2019"
$4.99 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes via stream of consciousness: Double IPA dry hopped with Mosaic, Citra, and Azacca. It's poured a hazy golden body beneath a two finger thick head of slightly off-white foam. The aroma is pungent with hop resins, citrus pith, and a hint of grapefruit and lemon. The flavor is much more fruity than pungent and resinous, and includes notes of juicy apple and pear, mango, tangerine, pineapple, berries, and mild pine. The malt is a basic golden malt that's softly grainy, and which works well to allow the hops to come through unfettered by toasty, biscuity, or caramelish notes. Additionally, there's not too much malt there, nor is it too sweet. On occasion double IPAs can be malt heavy but that's not the case here. It doesn't seem that bitter, and I feel that it's done at least partially in the New England IPA style. Finally, the alcohol doesn't show beyond just enough that you sense you're drinking a strong beer. In the mouth it's medium bodied with a delicate bristle from the carbonation. The head took a while to settle down, and there's some very nice lacing left behind. I'm impressed. It could be more hoppy in the nose to be sure, but that could also lead to some "hop bite" that wouldn't quite fit as this is rather smooth. Could it be more hoppy in the flavor? Yes, but again, that would throw off the great balance that it has. As it stands I think it's fairly perfect. Kudos to John and Chris and all of the people who work with them.

On tap, pours a mostly clear dark orange. Smell and taste are a little muted, which you don't expect at this ABV. I thought it would be much hoppier. Still a decent IPA.

Pretty fantastic. Quickly dissipating head of tight, compact bubbles that leaves some nice lacing. Smells fruity with no bitterness. Some mild citrus notes, but doesn't beat you over the head with them as a lot of IPAs do these days. Some pineapple in there too. Taste largely follows the nose, adding some pleasant fruity notes that I can't quite place cuz I'm not that adventurous when it comes to fruit. It's all very light on the bitter and heavy on the juice. Pleasant mouthfeel; medium to full-bodied. Overall a pretty great beer.

Pours a very slightly hazy golden color with a half inch white head that left a lot of lacing. Smell is on the mild side with citrus, tropical fruit and a bit of malt. L. Yellow with a hint of orange, mostly clear, frothy head of various sizes bubbles.
S. Candied fruit, a bit musty, pineapple, orange, some lemon and melon.
T. Light biscuit, sweet lemon, orange, pineapple, honeydew and some cantaloupe, juicy ripe berry like fruit juice Kool aid, finishes with some lemon, melon, and lemon-lime soda.
F. A bit fuller than medium bodied, smooth. Yeah, very smooth.
O. For me, a different IPA. Lacks any bitterness, not very balanced, but I am pretty sure that's what they were going for. I say it's very good. Cheers!

A: The beer is slightly hazy yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that left a large patch of bubbles on the surface and some lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of tangerines and cantaloupe melon are present in the nose along with notes of pineapples.
T: The taste has flavors of cantaloupe melon and mango. No alcohol is perceptible.
M: It feels medium-bodied and faintly crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The aromas and flavors in this beer seem to beer light for what you would normally expect from an Imperial IPA, but it is nice to have delicate bits of melon in the smell and taste.
