The Drafting Room 17th Anniversary Lager

On tap @ the Drafting Room (Exton, PA) on 8/5/11. Served in a pint glass.

Pours a clear, paler gold color in the glass, with about a finger or so of foamy bright-white head. This retains with some frothiness around the edges and thin wisps in the center, leaving back a smattering of creamy lace down the sides of the glass. The aroma smells grassy, spicy, and citric, with a backing grainy sweetness in the nostrils. This sits with some heft in the nostrils but I’m not picking up any alcohol traces at all.

The taste has a refreshing citric bitterness to it that snaps across the tongue with some strength. This is backed by those Pils malts, which have a nice stiff and toasted feel to them and add more than enough sweetness to help balance those hops. The finish is moderately dry with lingering notes of pith and spice that cling to the tongue. The mouthfeel is medium boded, with a tight and crisp feel on the palate that doesn’t quit. Beyond the fuller feel of the body, I would have never guessed that this was over 6% alcohol.

It didn’t surprise me at all to find out that this was a jacked up version of the Sunshine Pils, as that was exactly how this came off to me as I was drinking it. I think that I actually prefer this to the Sunshine as well, as this has a nice tight Pilsner fullness to it that I sometimes find lacking in their regular summer offering. This was good. I hope that we maybe see it again down the line.

funny i got to visit the troegs brewery and was very excited it was a great place and unexpected to have this cool tasting room at the end i heard there was a nice hoppy pils so here we go

well poured all right expect my big pillow top foam head had disappeared quickly not a lot left to linger

smelled good though got some hops in there although a strange and weird medicinal smell too

weird medicine taste as well you could pick up the alcohol in here and also for some weird reason i got some rosemary too weird

thicker mouthfeel than most pilsners but this is an imperial i guess

overall i did not care for this which is strange i think the sunshine is really good i had that out of the bottle recently but this one was not doing it for me at all

Served on tap at the Drafting Room for their 17th Anniversary celebration. Described to me by a Troegs rep as Sunshine Pils with twice the malt bill and more hops added.

A- pours a completely transparent shade of gold with a one finger white head. The head sticks around for awhile and leaves good lacing. Looks beautiful

S- very floral hop aroma. Smells nothing like the standard Sunshine Pils

T- a very pleasant mix of flavors. It starts off very sweet, and th finish gets those floral hops involved. Pretty damn excellent

M- a little buttery, but overall, the body is a little thin. Pretty standard for a pils, though. An imperial pils? Real thin.

D- this is an amazing beer. Really drinkable, and very tasty. If only this was going to be around for awhile
