The next installment in our Scratch Beer Series is another German style, the Kölsch. Developed in Cologne, Germany, this particular beer is warm fermented, then cold conditioned (or “lagered”) to bolster the fruity attributes present in the Kölsch yeast strain. Pale and straw-colored with a foamy white head, this refreshing, medium-bodied ale offers subtle hop bitterness and a slightly dry finish with hints of white grapes, spiced apple, and citrus fruit.

Finally getting around to this one. Thanks to spoolinvw for grabbing me a growler so I wouldn't miss it while I was gone.
A - Pours clear golden yellow with a dense one and a half finger tall white head leaving spotty trails of lace down most of the glass.
S - Smells of light fruitiness, bready pale malt, very light spice and a touch of grassy hops. Nothing too crazy but everything you would expect from the style. Very similar nose to the last scratch Kölsch.
T - Starts off with a mix of chewy pale malt and some mild grassy hop bite giving way to hints of very light spice, some dulled fruit and a bit of light sweetness. Finish has some chewiness to it but it doesn't linger for very long. Another easy drinking Kölsch from the scratch series.
M - Light body with moderate carbonation. Clean, crisp feel with some lingering breadiness at the end of each sip.
O - I must admit I let this growler sit for a little longer than I should have so take it with a grain of salt. Anyway, it is still pretty solid. It is strikingly similar to the last scratch Kölsch. I had no problem finishing the 1L growler in no time flat.
