On tap at the brewery in MD. Pours a dark mahogany color with a very thin light-tan head. Lots of cocoa, Baker's semi-sweet chocolate, roasted coffee, and toasted maltiness in the aroma. Goes down with the flavor and body of a solid porter rather than the "silky-smooth" body of an oatmeal stout. Caramel, toffee, cocoa powder, and toasty malts start things off flavor-wise. Light vanilla follows. Bitter dark chocolate and roasted coffee in the drying finish. An average stout at best.

Pours black with a deep tan head. Pretty good retention and a bit of lace. The nose is roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. Taste also brings some roasted malt and mild coffee and chocolate. Good roast all around. A bit dry with really nice drinkability. A solid offering and a good introduction to the brewery.

On tap at the Bel Air location the other day. Alchemy pours a blackish brown color with good head retention and decent lacing. The nose shows some surprisingly intense licorise, along with the expected coffee, light vanilla and dark chocolate. Given the aroma profile, I was a bit disappointed with the flavor profile, which was much lighter then expected. This is a moderately sweet stout, but it seemed one dimensional, and was dominated by coffee and light vanilla chocolate. The beer is a bit thin and is fairly light bodied, though the finish is fairly smooth. Drinkability isn't bad in this beer, and you can tell the alcohol is fairly low.
Nothing exceptional here, but a decent oatmeal style stout if that's what you're in the mood for.

Had this on tap at the Bowie location.
Consumed 8/29/09- from notes.
Served in a shaker glass.
A- Pitch black with a fluffy one finger tan head that settled to thin skim leaving decent lacing through out the glass.
S- I didnt expect an oatmeal stout to be roasty! Very nice surprise. Some chocolate and coffee hints in there as well.
T- The roastiness continues! Light chocolate and oats. A little bitter as well.
M- Super smooth and creamy. Medium to heavy body.
D- My new go to beer at DuClaws.

Draught at DuClaw Bowie.
Pours black, nice thick brown head, creamy.
Nose is nicely roasty, light espresso and some oatmeal peeking through.
Taste is roasty, notes of espresso and cocoa, some nutty oats showing through as well. Very flavorful, and while nothing revolutionary, everything just fits well together.
Mouthfeel is beautiful. Light, creamy, full, and silky, this is exactly what an oatmeal stout should feel like. Wondering what the gas mixture was on this one, too crisp for nitro but felt too smooth and creamy for CO2.
Drinkability was great, I could have stayed with this one for a long, long time. Very impressed. My favorite beer of the trip.

Appearance: black in color with a 1/2" head that breaks apart immediately. No lacing develops.
Smell: light roasted malt tones are all that can be picked up by the nose.
Taste: roasted malts, hints of coffee and chocolate, some prune sweetness, and a mild bitterness. The oats provide some silkiness here.
Mouthfeel: lightly crisp to start, smoother and silky towards the finish. The finish is also lightly dry. Aftertaste is short as the roasted malt tones linger the longest. Medium bodied.
Drinkability: decent oatmeal stout but more than two of these in a session may get tiring. Worth a try if on tap, but you won't be overwhelmed with this one.
