El Guapo means "Lady's Man" in Spanish. And this special beer was released on Cinco de Mayo, 2007. The official release statement says: "This refreshing, medium bodied golden colored lager boasts a rich malty flavor with a subtle, underlying hop bitterness for balance and a white, creamy head. Viva la revolution y la cerveza!"
Color is dark gold with a nice head; a bit of bubbles dancing through the glass. Smell is all malt. Moderate mouthfeel with just a bit of carbonation (probably left during the pour). Taste is all malt with something else (rice?) that provides a slick, smooth maltiness that stops just short of cloying by a slight hops bitterness. Actually quite tasty and drinkable (the moderate body helps a lot in that department) and, while I kept finding myself thinking "American Adjunct Lager," the quality and drinkability of the product won me over. Great seasonal selection--especially with Nachos. I hope they bring it back!
