Poured into a pint glass from a bottle. Pours translucent orange with a small white head that disappears quickly. Smells of lime and spiciness. Tastes of spicy peppers with a touch of lime, almost opposite of the aroma. Beer is light bodied but a a moderate sipper because of the spiciness, good carbonation. Overall, a good beer.

A- 12oz bottle pours into my tulip with a mostly clarified deep golden-copper body and a thick but foamy white head. The cap falls fairly quickly to a small ring. No lacing is left behind.

S- Mostly freshly mashed sticky sweet, bready pale grains off the top with some pale fruits from the yeast and then a burst of lime peel. The chiles are more covered up here. Fades rather fast.

T- Things shift around and the lime becomes the dominant force of the beer in the flavor with an authentic and somewhat fresh feel. Supporting the lime is the lager yeast which is a bit on the funky side slightly reminiscent of some of the big names in lager. Cereal grain sweetness, pale sweet grapes, yeast bread, bitter citrus peel, a medium chile heat, earthy veggie peppers and crackers come to mind.

MF- Light to medium overall thickness with a frothy, foamy texture due to a high end carbonation. Finishes with a lingering chile heat and slight zesty bitterness.

A pale lager that is dominated by lime and ends with a soothing mild chile heat all over the palate. The level of pepper here is on point but the underlying lager is a bit weak.

On tap at brewery:
Pours a copper-leaning gold. Thick rim of bubbles that you can see being fed from below. Not much lacing at all.

Nose is sweet bread - like a rich white bread. Lime adds a light citrus note and lime scent without any indication of tartness; the sweeter bread notes seem to give a more candied lime note to the smell.

The initial sips of this beer had a lovely clean, crisp feel. The line came in and did remind me of Coronas of old. The beer behind the lime is so much better, though. Light grain/bread that really only gives a foundation for the citrus notes from the lime.

There's no heat to th... nope! There it is. A nice little tingle along the sides of the tongue. But the it's gone. Until the next sip, which adds to the strength. By the time my glass is half gone, my tongue is a little tingingly numb.

A wonderfully refreshing brew that delivers on what it says-lime and heat. The lime is a little forward, but the heat plays coy at first before joining the party more vociferously.

Pours a straw color with about a finger of head. The nose has no heat but there is some lime. The flavor has both a mild be clearly present heat and lime notes that serve as a nice counterpoint to the heat.

I am on a roll today! I am sitting here in my shotgun shack (sort of) with the doors open and hoping for a whiff of a breeze. In the interim, there is beer in the reefer that begs to be drank and reviewed. I am really digging the Dog, dig? It's better than playing Piddly F**k the Dog as Fat Ron used to say when he caught our boys skylarking during working hours. He & I butted heads on occasion, but he was a great co-worker whom I would love to run into sometime.

From the bottle: "Mild yet unpredictably significant heat. Add a squeeze of lime and grains of paradise and you've got yourself quite the wildcard. Playing with a little fire never hurt anyone, right?"

I Pop!ped the cap & let fly, but either the heat & humidity of the day is oppressive or the Dog just ain't gettin' it. Dig? I scoped the color in my groovy glass and came up with Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7) with NE-quality clarity, calling forth The Gelt Gang of Midas, Mammon & Croesus, all squabbling for a taste. My turn, babies! Nose smelled more like lime juice than anything, but the Devil awaits the unsuspecting. Mouthfeel was (once again) thin & watery, but it's a Lager at base, so I guess that I shouldn't be surprised. it had a pleasant lime coolness in the mouth and on the tongue, so I just kind of rolled it around before swallowing. Big mistake! Suddenly, The Devil made no bones about exposing himself as the gates of Hell swung open and a fiery blast from the furnace within hit me full-on. Jesus! Nope. Satan. And me without my reflective suit ... First, my forehead began to drip, then it was the solar panel for my sex machine on the crown of my head, then the crack of my a** & finally, my eyeballs began to sweat! Oh. Is this someone's idea of a cruel joke? Or a good time? Eeek. Ho! I am now wide awake & ready to face the day. Great guns of Navarone! A searing sensation began to course through my throat, constricting it and leaving me gasping for air. Finish? I was finished! It was so hot & dry that I could hear the Zephyr winds blowing across the Sahara Desert. Okay, that may satiate me long enough to run some errands before starting back up, in earnest!

Flying Dog Brewery "Ancho Lime Paradise Lager"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, "ENJOY BY: 10.23.16" and sampled on 07.21.16

Appearance: Mostly clear deep gold body beneath a short-lived head of bright white foam. No lacing is left behind.

Aroma: Wow! You can actually smell the ancho peppers! Anchos, by the way, are dried poblanos. I can also smell the lime, and behind that, grainy malt.

Flavor: As the aroma suggests, I get peppers upfront with the lime closing in quickly around it but never becoming tart, or even bold because of the malt that comes on just as strong (they've also used lime peel, and not lime juice). Grains of Paradise add a hint of citrus and a touch of gingery pepper, but there's also some earthiness and a kind of dark-skinned fruit note from the Anchos. As you progress through the glass you may find that the order changes, sometimes giving malt or lime first, and then the pepper, or an overall flavor that combines all of them together. However you look at it though, in whatever combination, it's really well balanced. It's not that bitter, but the heat from the peppers is all you need. It's not super hot though. Poblanos range from 1,000 to 2,000 Scoville units while Jalapenos start at about 3,500 and run up to around 8,000. It finishes spicy, and as you might imagine any alcohol from the 6.0% ABV content is completely cloaked.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and smooth with a gentle carbonation so as not to add any carbonic acid or emphasis to an already spicy beer. Overall feel = spicy and tingly AFTER swallowing!

Overall: Impressive! Probably the best pepper beer I've ever tasted. The character of each element comes through, it's nicely balanced, and it's not to hot or palate wrecking even after a full serving. Superb! It makes me hungry for a small bowl of Colorado chili!

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, best before 10/23/2016. Pours slightly hazy pale gold color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of lightly tart lime zest, lemon, chile pepper, cracker, white bread, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance of lime/pepper, pale malt, and light earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of lightly tart lime zest, lemon, chile pepper, cracker, white bread, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Light herbal bitterness and pepper spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of lime zest, lemon, chile pepper, cracker, white bread, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Damn nice robustness and balance of lime/pepper, pale malt, and light earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Very clean on lager flavors with zero yeast notes present. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, crisp, dry, and lightly grainy/sticky mouthfeel that is awesome. No alcohol warming after the finish; with light pepper heat building up through the glass, but never becoming overdone. Overall this is an excellent fruited pale lager! All around great robustness and balance of lime/pepper, pale malt, and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.
