A one-two combo of sweet and tart that stuns you with a pucker punch. Unlike most sours on the shelf, this one delivers on its fruit punch promise, perfectly balancing sweetness and tartness. In fact, early reviews described it as “as addicting as a pocketful of sweet tarts” and “holy fuck that’s good.” If you even dream of a better sour, you better wake up and apologize.

(12 oz bottle, 04.25.22, 'Fruit Punch Sour'; purchased single off shelf... poured into a Gibraltar glass)
L: opaque, ruby-red-grapefruit flesh colored liquid; tight, bouncy, pink-tinged white foam, sticky already... thin collar, scant lace
S: jellybeans and a kiss of ruby-red grapefruit juice; vibrant jelly candy (Sunkist citrus slices?) aromas, hint of fruited lip balm; all 3D and popping
T: mostly the base kettle sour immediately with the (papaya-leaning?) fruit punch-y busting to burst, which it sort of does in the finish... nah I'm definitely getting canned red grapefruit slices in the back; more 'punch' in the afterburps
F: swollen, light-medium bodied bloat up front, subtle sizzle in the finish, thankfully... its tart bite is on the mellow side... a few sips in and there is a slight viscous envelope to it
O: love the concept... I'd get this again, despite it not dazzling me... I feel like if I ordered a glass, I'd take a few sips and forget it was there soon after (1936)

Poured into a tall clear pint glass. Pinkish orange in appearance, maybe like Hawaiian Punch, if not like a peach. Thin head, not much lacing or retention.
Aroma: hawaiian punch, fruit juice, mixed fruit, raspberries, lemon, and blueberries.
Really tasting the lemon and raspberries most of all, accompanying blueberries too. Really just follows the nose though. Light body.

It smells of fruit punch with citrus notes. It looks red, not amber, more like fruit and veggies in color. Thin white head with a nice acidic and sour tang. Swirl the bottle towards the bottom, pour, and the head will turn pink. It could be more sour, but the balance is good too.

Has that pinkish orange color one associates with fruit punch
Just below average body with about medium carbonation.
Aroma is most intense part of this beer. Comes off like adult Hawaiian punch. Mixed fruit, fruit juice, some sweet and sour candy with just a bit of alcohol.
Taste mildly sweet with the prickly champagne like carbonation this reminds me of adult fruit punch. Hawaiian punch with a kick pretty much describes the taste.
I scored it well because it was very good and was a perfect adult punch beer.

So, what happens when Hawaiian Punch and Sour Ale get together? A familiar childhood flavor comes with a vicious hook. Its amazing what booze can do. And that's the direction that Flying Dog takes this Sour Ale.
With a zesty neon pink pour, a milky haze softens the glow. But with the exact same color as Hawaiian Punch, the beer's frothy cap dissipates to further look like the fruit punch. With an equally as spot-on scent of punch, the tropical aromas come with a tangier cider, sangria and tingle of acidity. A mild mannered sweetness skirts the tongue with the suggestive taste of taffy, sourdough and fruit puree.
And its that fruit puree flavors that make a mark in taste as an exotic blend of pineapple, strawberry, raspberry, mango, apricot make a strong mark in taste. Seemingly like kool-aid with a richer fruit zing, As the ale actually turns to dryness and lightness, the cider, lime, lemon, wine acidities balance the fruit additions and usher in a refreshing taste that trends like a mixed drink on the late palate.
Medium bodied for sour ale and finishing more than tart, but reserved on sourness, Vicious Hook finishes slightly spice and less sweet than the nose and early palate suggests. Somewhat thin and watery, a preference of stronger sourness and dryness would improve. But as is, the ale finishes fruity-sour and with a short aftertaste of Hawaiian Punch.

12oz brown bottle, sample from the brewery.
Slightly clouded rose hued brew, decent lacing. Smells if they used organic SweetTart candies , lots of tart fruit but a faint candy like nose. Smooth and moderate bodied, the sweetness underneath is blanketed by a somewhat mellow tartness that doesn't fade much. A Ying to the yang, quite balanced. Drinkable as the finish dries up a bit and the tartness cleans up well. A full glass of fun, a beer I'd love to revisit.

12 oz bottle split with my wife. It...looks, smells, and tastes like fruit punch, but in a non-artificial way and it still comes across as beer. Flying Dog likes to make gimmicky beers and often they don't hit the mark, but this one nailed fruit punch on the head.
