12 oz can poured into a tapered glass. Comes in a 4-pack, available during the winter
L - brown in color, hazy dark brown body, two finger head with very light lacing
S - clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, toffee, cocoa
T - dark, not roasted, malt along with caramel. Cocoa and nutmeg match the aroma, just a hint. Almost dubbel like
F - light mouth feel, soft malt taste, low after taste. Nice easy going drinkable winter beer

A thanks goes out to the captain of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a mahogany color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is dominated by spices. Taste is also heavy on the spice, some malts are present. Feels medium/light bodied in the mouth and overall, not a terrible beer, but a bit heavy handed with the spices.

Today is New Beer Sunday (Week 573) and as I move out of the Fall beers, I am now picking up with the Winter/Holiday beers, including this one, for which I should receive a photo credit. As a part of The CANQuest (tm), no CAN should be Crack!ed open until an approved pic is in place. The history behind this is that early on, some naysayers disbelieved that some of my reviews were of CANned beers. It just became easier to have documented photographic proof on file than to argue or defend myself. C'est la guerre!
From the CAN: "The Place Where We Drink"; "Every year around the holidays[,] the fragrance of whole cardamom and brown sugar fills the air at the Manayunk Brewing Company. This [CAN] only mean that Festivus is upon us. The rich plum and raisin flavors are certainly a feat of strength while the complex spice profile shouldn't be included in anyone's airing of grievances."; "Please Recycle".
Ah, the Crack! of a CAN is like music to my ears. I took note of the fact that the label also read "Unfiltered", which meant that the gentlest of Glugs was in order. Once I had deCANted a sufficient amount into the awaiting glass, I gave the liquid a swirl, raising a finger of foamy, tawny head with moderate retention. Color was Coppery-Brown (SRM = > 17, < 22) with NE-quality clarity. The swirl also released a lot of esters from the beer and suddenly my kitchen smelled like I was baking Christmas cookies! The nose was both bready and spicy, although I would have guessed cinnamon & ginger, but very evocative of cookies. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was incredibly spicy! It was like a liquefied gingerbread cookie in the mouth. Phew! It was literally breathtaking as I reached for my asthma inhaler. I kid you not. My eyes watered from its intensity. I am not (usually) one to air grievances openly, but this was a bit much. At point does the spice begin to reach saturation in a beer? I also began to taste spruce tips on top of everything else. This was a bit much, even for me. Finish was gaspingly dry from all of the spice. Wow. They need to dial back on the spices just a tad next year, being that this is an annual release. If I CAN find another CAN, I may do some cellar aging to see if it mellows out at all.
