We added a boat-load of the most exquisite sweet dark cherries we could find, giving Upshitz Kriek an abundance of sweet and tart fruity flavors, balanced by a far from modest grist bill. Both our house Belgian yeast and a select strain of Brett Drei offer sensational contributions to give this sour ale its unique and delicious flavor. Just don't be caught without a paddle.

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a pint glass.
L: Light red, maybe pink/blood orange color. Completely clear. Originally poured a thin head, which is completely gone 10 sec later. Some bubbles on side of glass and no lacing. Some bigger particulates in my bottle.
S: Cherries, raspberries and alcohol. Pretty standard.
T: As you'd expect, it tastes like cherries. Much more tart and much less sweet than other fruit beers; after all, it's labeled as a sour ale. Aftertaste honestly reminds me more of a dry sangria than a beer. No distinct malts or hop characteristics. Sour-ness is strong. Made my roommate wince when he tried it, but what does he know?
F: Very thin and light, which is impressive for its alcohol content. Drying and clean on the tongue and gums. Heavy, fizzy carbonation.
This is an interesting beer. Unlike anything I've ever had before. Now, I would order this beer at a bar with the appropriate pairing- red meat or salty carbs. Yet, I couldn't see myself ordering more than two of these.

Poured from a 500 mL bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip
L: Nearly clear burgundy/maroon pour. Thin white head... fizzy and falls fast. Not much in the way of lacing.
S: Tart cherries and stone fruits. Mild lemon citrus/tartness.
T/F: Very light... a little fizzy. Not as tart as I expected from the nose. Super drinkable. Sweet/tart cherry, light lemon, and a bit of funk. Relatively dry finish... with more cherry and a bit of red wine character.
O: A really nice and drinkable Wild Ale. Mildly tart with fruity sweetness. Yummy.

Manayunk Brewery & Restaurant "Upshitz Kriek"
on tap @ The 19th Annual Manayunk Craft Beer Festival
Notess: Slightly hazy reddish-pink in color beneath a pink head. Limited head retention and lacing. The aroma expresses cherries and tartness with just a little bit of earthiness/mineral. The flavor follows with some funk. It's not too tart, and there's some sweetish grainy malt to balance it as well. The flavor is cherry but there's also a little bit of berry to it, and dark fruit skin in general, tannic I guess. No bitterness, but of course it's not needed. Earthy, mineralish, acidic, dry finish with some residual cherry. Light-medium in body and crisp with a moderate, fine-bubbled carbonation and acidity. Somewhat unique, and certainly satisfying.

Poured into a Lindemans flute glass a little cooler than room temperature. Pours a bright ruby red with a massive 5 inch pink head that settles faster than any beer I have ever seen.
Smell is sour apples, raspberry, must, and black cherry juice.
Taste follows must, smashed apples, raspberry juice, and black cherries, kind of sour.
Mouthfeel is thin, much less carbonation than my past experiences with this style, not dry, and the drinkability is good once you get adjusted to the musty over ripened berry flavors.
Overall this sneaks up on you at 8% ABV, well hidden. Will need be something I love, but I won't run from the beer in the future. Thanks again @jzeilinger for a very interesting experience.
