I've had this beer on tap at the brewpub and it was much better! It's not even close to being the same beer. I'm not sure if this suffers from infection (if so, it's not obvious), or maybe some problem in bottling (i.e. residual sanitizer). Pours a hazy deep copper with orange tints. Nice, creamy-tan head that dies but completely covers the beer throughout the pint. No lace. The aroma is quite odd. A mixture of fruitiness, lightly toasted malt and some odd solvent-like note. This was intended as a "big version of a Vienna lager", so I understand the fruitiness, but the off-flavor is too much. The body is medium-light and has a light crispness to it. The flavor is OK except for that odd note, which is fairly heavy. I think it's iodophor! (I've experienced the same thing homebrewing!) It's got some maltiness - more toasty than Munich - and a delicate touch of hops. Seemingly well balanced. The finish is softly malty and slips away nicely except that that off-flavor is still there. May simply be a damaged bottle, but not good.
