on tap at philly bar and restaurant

Pours a blacked out color with a crop of tanned head resting on top. Plenty of patchy lacing left on the glass with some cloudy retention.

Piny and hoppy in the nose with lingering bitterness. Hints of roasted malts and char with sweetness from chocolate. Faint alcohol warmth.

Bitter and piny up front with some sticky resin and a touch of citrus fruit. Light sweetness before the malty backbone kicks in. Roasted malts and charred hints with some caramel and chocolate. Finishes bitter and dry with a dash of lingering heat.

Medium body, well carbonated, sticky and dry on the tongue. A solid take on the black IPA - I'd have this again (and I have).

Review from notes. Had on tap at Whole Foods in Glen Mills PA.

A: Pours a deep brown with a small tan head that last for most of the time it took to drink the beer. Really nice lacing down the entire length of the glass.

S Extremely floral and hoppy. There is some citrus and definite pine. Really not much roast at all.

T: Some roasted malt shows up on the flavor profile and a little bit of chocolate, but it is again predominately hops that drive the flavor. More pine with some faint citrus fruit.

M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Slightly dry finish. Abv well hidden.

O: A decent beer. I still prefer my dark beers and ipas separate though.

First had: growler shared at Pinocchio's, Media, PA
Don't know who brought it, but thanks for the share!

Slightly hazy, dark brown pour with ruby tints, and a small layer of white bubbles on top. Aroma of dark malts, smokey, with a good amount of piney hops, but not too overbearing. Taste followed the aroma, dark semi-smokey malts, balanced generously with piney hops, notes of chocolate, caramel, woodland leaves. Pretty mellow, which, for the style, is a good thing. Medium bodied, a bit resinous, a good drinker overall.

A - Pours a deep mahogany burgundy color, almost black in appearance. Creamy lacing and an even head across the top, no carbonation (that I can see). This beer looks more like a stout when not held in the light.

S - Piney citrus and roasted chocolate blend with a little bit of cream on the side.

T - Deep roasted malt, mild bitter chocolate, a little floral, a little piney, a little bit of citrus blended in. Half way through the pine and citrus settle on the back of the tongue before a dry and bitter roasted chocolate finish settles in.

M - The mouth is left with a coating of roasted chocolate in the beginning of the aftertaste, but as that dies off, in comes the citrus rind and metal to linger for awhile longer. Mild pricklies on the tongue, big bodied, and a little sticky.

D - Nice blend of hops and malts.

On tap at Whole Foods, Plymouth Meeting.

A-A dark clear brown with some ruddy amber at the bottom of the glass. The frothy tan head has good retention and lacing.

S-Roasted malt, not too burnt with some bitter citrus hops.

T-Roasted chocolate malt with some unexpected creamy sweetness and a bitter earthy finish. Very nice.

M-Medium bodied, a bit dry.

D-Nicely drinkable. I have passed on Manayunk beers for years due to their rampant (IMO) mediocrity. Gotta rethink that...

growler into a standard pint
Pours black with brown edges and a two-finger head which quickly settles. Nose is floral hops with some roasted malt. Taste is nicely balanced, with some citrus notes, light roasted malt. Mouthfeel is light to medium with some edge. A friend and I had no trouble finishing this growler and I will look to Manayunk more often for treats like this.

Not sure if Chris or the new brewer did this, but it is definitely interesting. IDK, call it a combo chocolate male w/ IPA recipe, but I dig it. When pour it out, it reminds me of a schawztbeer. Not a lot of head, and a real floral/ grassy nose. pours an opaque deep dark brown. Last is nice. has a definite malt, but there is a definate citurs up front. It pack enough flavor, but doesn't smack you around. Pretty good, whoever made it
