Double Chocolate Truffle Stout

Double Truffle is a borderline obscene rendition of our Chocolate Truffle Stout. Brewed with hundreds of pounds chocolate malt, cocoa powder, and cocoa nibs, the chocolate saturation in this can is truly next level.

A - Pitch black pour with a dense, thin toffee colored creamy layer and a thick lacing

S - Chocolate roast, cocoa, toasted cocoa, and a delicate amount of chocolate char.

T - Chocolate and more chocolate from start to finish. Chocolate roast, toasty roasty cocoa, chocolate nibs, and ends with a lingering chocolate roasty bitterness.

M - Full bodied with a silky texture and some warming on the way down.

O - This is an easy drinker for such a big beer. Worth a try.

A touch fizzy, with a huge three finger head. Decent retention and lacing.

Despite the name and description, the nose implies a relatively straightforward stout: cola, prune, roast, molasses, coffee, and caramel. While there's a hint of coffee, it doesn't stand out against what you'd expect from any massive imperial stout.

Much like the nose, this is more bitter and roasty on the palate than expected, with very little chocolate, and almost no sweetness. At nearly 12%, with the name Double Truffle (based on chocolate truffles, not the fungus), you'd expect a rich, thick dessert beer - and you'd be very wrong. The finish certainly has some bitter, powdery chocolate, lingering through the aftertaste. With each sip, the chocolate comes out a bit more, along with a tiny bit more sweetness, but it never becomes the sweet, chocolatey, rich dessert beer I expected.

Thick and full bodied. Long finish. Way too easy to drink given the sky high ABV.

If you can get past your own expectations, this is a very, very good beer, and quite enjoyable.
