Grabbed this one today at Isetan. I'm not positive but I think this is my first from Kiuchi. They have a pretty good reputation and now I can see why. This was deeelicious. Creamy, malty, spicy, with a nice hoppy bitter backend, but still very light bodied and super easy to drink. I haven't tried the normal version so I'm not sure what the ceder aging has done to this beer, but I'll pick up one next time to compare.
Couldn't resist the urge to drink it out of the bottle...its getting hot now and I don't care what anyone says, there's nothing better than drinking out of the bottle on a hot day. I'll definitely be grabbing a few more of these in the future.

Highly Recommended.

Appearance: Frothy, confident, snowy, old-piano-key off-white head with good retention. Slightly hazy amber body with classy brass edges.

Smell: Subdued yet definitely noticeable cedar, thick and sweet caramel, light butterscotch, toasted marshmallow, and slight herbal-peppery notes from the Kent Goldings and Challenger hops. Sweeter than the regular version with lighter cedar notes. Sumptuous and sweet, but not as bright as the original.

Taste: Sweet and malty, with loads of caramel, toffee, brown sugar, and roasted almonds and peanuts. Hints of sappy cedar and English hops add spice and balance, with a lingering, hoppy, bittersweet finish. Not as interesting or robust as the original version, but that's to be expected as this is supposed to be more "mellow."

Mouthfeel: Smooth and creamy, medium bodied, but slightly flat and drab.

Drinkability: A tad cloying, but still very good and sessionable. Perhaps a good pair with simply-prepared pork dishes, like some good, salty butabara yakitori.
