i loved this, but i liked all the beer we had in here, this is way clever, an amber ale, and a fine one as the base beer, but then done with honey and coffee, such a cool combination, the coffee isnt overly roasted which is key, the malty amber is a nice vessel for these flavors, and the technical execution is great, an impressive introduction to this place, which i think is in its best form right now. pretty deep amber color on this, nice clarity, modest just off white head on it, sudsy still, ample carbonation. the nose is warm from the coffee, like good espresso with modern profile roasted beans, maybe african, it has that fruitiness to it, raisin and cherry, a hint of maple, and the honey is as floral as it is sweet, lifting the coffee some, nice nutty malt base here too, toast and bready hearty fullness, but less sweet than it sounds, and the base beer isnt lost to the added elements, which is true in the flavor too. coffee the whole way but zero bitterness or acidity from it, almond and amaretto notes in here with the malt and coffee together, and then all the honey, which is drizzly and sticky and summery in an otherwise very fall beer, and the proportions are great, like i could have five pints of this happily, which i was very surprised by, its bold but also reserved in the right ways, and the smoothness and carbonation are great, nothing harsh from the coffee at all, warms up well, and serves as a lovely hangover drink. clever and impressive, some cool beers happening in here already, good for them! unique and delicious. about as jazzy as american amber can get!
