Coffee Pumpkin Ale

A pumpkin ale with the attitude of a world-weary barista, Punkuccino packs a short shot of Stumptown coffee toddy in your pint with just a shake of cinnamon and nutmeg. Pale, Bown, Biscuit, C-77 Crystal, Chocolate and Kiln-Coffee malts provide the body, German Northern Brewer lends a touch of bitterness, and lactose sweetens just a touch. Three pumpkin additions, in the mash, kettle and fermenter.

12 oz. Bottle

Poured into a Tired Hands glass a pretty nice translucent brown color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger plus light tan head, which also leaves some pretty nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is pretty nice, hoppy, malty, pretty nice pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, coffee. The taste is very nice, hoppy, malty, very nice pumpkin note, cinnamon, nutmeg, pretty nice coffee note. Medium body, ABV hidden very well, nice little dry/bitter finish. Overall, a very tasty pumpkin ale.

Cola-colored pour with a nice creamy beige head. At first thought, pumpkin and coffee paired sounded like a bad idea, but this one of Elysian many pumpkin-based varieties totally works. Coffee, pumpkin and spice balance is experienced from the nose to the flavor. There's a prolonged tannin and roast finish. And the lactose added gives this ale a silky, creamy mouthfeel. I'd take this over Starbucks any day.

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a cola color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of coffee, spices. Taste is nutmeg, coffee, a touch of cinnamon and pumpkin. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent beer.

Poured from a can into a tulip glass. My tasting will be short, as I am sensitive to caffeine and the caffeine content of this beer is unknown. My partner will finish the beer for me.

Look: Dark brown with a think, tan head. Poor head retention but great lacing.

Smell: They nailed the aroma, as it very much smells like a coffee shop in Fall. It's coffee front and center with some spice hiding in the back and a fairly amount of pumkin, as well. I dig it.

Taste: The spice is kicked up a notch. it's on the palate that it asserts itself as a beer, rather than a latte. It's easy to drink and all of the flavors seem to be playing nicely together as one cohesive unit.

Feel: It has a very nice bubbly and rich mouthful.

Overall: This is a great beer. It is a shame that I like it so much because I can already feel the caffeine.

Pours a dark brown, clear(?), with hints of orange color also from an 12 ounce can into a tulip glass. 1 finger of Off white foam with decent
Lacing. Aroma of coffee, and notes of vanilla. Flavor notable for coffee, and pumpkin pie spices.

Pumpkin and coffee go so well together. It's subtle Pumpkin with coffee on the back palate. A true fall beer that isn't too heavy but provides all the flavor you expect from a good Pumpkin beer.

In my old age I can sometime go weeks without going to the fancy beer store (in my town, 7 miles. but I don't go often). In my most recent provisioning I noticed a pronounced increase in the variety of singles sold. And when I went back the next day for something else I was shocked how much of it was sold. All that to say I bought this here can. It's the real deal.

It pours dark brown/red and opaque with a little fizz. It feels real - unfiltered. The aroma is exotic pumpkin with who knows what but it smells like something I have to drink. The taste is of the base (brown ale?) plus the great adjuncts, with the coffee feeling more like whole bean goodness than a processed drink.

Highly recommended. I already went back for more. I am two for two on pumpkin brews this year.

Look: Very dark brown body with a medium tan head that has solid retention.
Smell: A lot of sweet cinnamon and nutmeg and dash of pumpkin but unfortunately no coffee.
Taste: A lot of spice that is very well balanced by a little sweetness. It's quite good and easily drinkable, but the coffee is again largely AWOL. It does add a slight smokiness to the taste but that’s all.
Feel: Medium in the mouth and sparsely carbonated. I would have ranked it a bit higher due to its age, but I noticed that other reviews also mention this problem even when the beer is fresh.
Overall: A good beer even if the coffee is mostly absent. It's my third favorite out of the 2024 VP and I would recommend trying it.

I don't like coffee and I'm not a fan of pumpkin spice drinks, but my wife loves them, so I tried a taste of hers. To my surprise it wasn't too bad. It has a mellow coffee taste and not much pumpkin spice. The strong malt body and some sweetness balances out the beer. I didn't notice to much spice, which in my opinion is great. This is a beer I could probably drink/sip on. "SURPRISE" Rated 9-7-2021
