When Keith travels to Belgium, he always looks forward to enjoying classic Belgian Table beers. Traditionally, these lower-alcohol beers are brewed to accompany a meal and great company. Blue Moon Brewing Company® created a twist on this style by making our Belgian Table Pils a more flavorful, yet balanced pilsner.

Belgian Table Pils is a sessionable Belgian-style pilsner brewed with mandarin orange peel and two row Moravian barley for a balanced, refreshing summertime beer.

Not bad, but far from Pilsner. Malt, orange, and some noble hops in aroma. Sweet taste with ma ild, hoppy bitterness at the end. Drinkable but a weird interpretation of the style

In the Law of Unintended Consequences, The Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody is enabling me to conduct a buncha brewery horizontals (same brewery, different beers) & today (at least until I need to leave for 2nd shift) are as many Blue Moon offerings as I can get in safely & still do my job later. This will be my first entry for Once In A New Blue Moon Beer Sunday (Week 645)!

From the bottle: "Pilsner Brewed with a Hint of Mandarin Orange Peel".

A screwed-up screw-top cap ruined my opportunity to Pop! the cap, but I used my anger management training to my advantage & didn't begin wreaking havoc. Instead, I simply used a gentle pour to decant the beer into my awaiting Pilsner glass. An in-glass swirl raised a brief finger of foamy, rocky, bone-white head with decent retention. Color was a solid Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9), darker than I expected & with the NE-quality clarity which I did expect. Nose had a honey-like sweetness underlain with a light citrusiness of orange. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was bready, with a honey-like sweetness and a barely noticeable orangey citrusiness. Finish was semi-dry, but easily quaffable on a hot summer's day here in south-central PA. Two Qs: 1) Why is this NOT listed as a "Pilsner" on this site? Change request sent. 2) Why only "a hint"? This would have been even nicer with a bit more orange flavor, IMHO.

Twist cap 12 ounce bottle poured to glass
pale light amber liquid, big white foam dissipates quickly but lingers, hazy
Nose: not a lot, aroma of cinnamon
low bitterness tart
lively carbonation
Good beer, ok to repeat but not look for BA RB

I tried this from the bottle chilled in a glass

The color is golden, clear with thick pale white head with very fine bead and lace that sticks. The smell is malt dominant with a light toast and subtle yeast scent adding a bready smell yet not hop aroma is apparent. The feel is mildly sweet up front with moderately creamy texture and mild carbonation level with gentle bitterness.

The taste is pretty decent -mild malt with light yeast fruitiness and herbal hop flavor which is subtle yet becomes apparent as it warms. The yeast adds to the taste and malt provides a toasted grain mix with gentle mineral quality toward the back. This is enjoyable I liked it more near cellar temperature-it has a nice, slightly dry quality and not overly bitter a pretty standard easy drinking lager

Appearance: Clear, deep golden body, crowned by a large, fairly dense white head, which slowly fades to nothingness. Thick, fine-beaded lacing coats the glass walls in an unbroken sheet. The carbonation is sparse, drifting lazily to the surface.

Aroma: The hops are herbal and spicy, the orange peel contributes a slight and refreshing tang, There is also a slight honey note and some cracker malt.

Taste: Opens with cracker malt, and noble hops, followed by a little sweet and tangy orange rind. As the taste progresses, AS the taste progresses, the hops turn grassy. Finishes with a lingering malty sweetness and slightly earthy hops.

Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, full, and pleasant.

Drinkability/notes: A very nice American Pale Lager, that manages to offer a bit more than typically found in the style.

Presentation: Packaged in a custom twelve-ounce brown glass bottle with a twist-off crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is a golden yellow with a large white head. The aroma is slight malt with maybe some grass. The taste is rather bland, mild malts with a faint bitter finish. My least favorite Blue Moon offering. Tastes stale.
