The Hastings Project is radically one of a kind. It seems like each brew's profits are given to a different organisation helping in and around East Sussex. (I hope they keep enough to reinvest to develop their own brewing facility and community centre.) Since most micros give their community support by giving beer to these groups for their fundraisers, Hastings approach is different and riskier... if they are to stay in business. Being a soft-hearted soul, I give Hastings very good Overall Hugs in the hope they grow to have an impact.
That said, this Helles was good and good enough to be widely drunk. Hastings' Helles Looks appetising, a healthy foam that stayed active to the end. Smells were only slightly above average, mostly malt but not much more. Tastes were well-balanced, hops really only in the finish. More than medium-mouthed. Soft in a soft style. A great pairing with an Indian dosa.
I would have again and want to try Hastings' other offerings.
