Thanks to Mr GA Beer Ambassador @JBowenGeorgia for a shot at this new take on a Pils.
Canned date a little smudged but looks like 05/21/18
Pours a clear straw color, bountiful head fluffs up assertively, then drops off to a slight fluffy cap. Scattered lacing as well.
Smell has an interesting addition of a gritty dried grain note that tames the mildly spicy hop notes. Some smooth citrus notes also show through with a nuanced floral lemon presence.
Taste is more of a blend of the herbal spice notes and lemon. The gritty grain note brings a kind of earthiness to the flavor. Upon reading the can, I noticed that this Pils is brewed with "Local Wheat And Corn Grits." This explains the grainy notes that were hard to nail down. Pretty good, definitely a break from tradition that may offend some purists, and I found it interesting.
Mouthfeel is lite and crisp. Carbonation is less than expected.
Overall, not a traditional Pils. But an interesting take. Perhaps a little more use of the Huell Melon hops listed on the can would bring a more interesting and distinctive hop note for me.
