The Silent World is a highly drinkable black lager with malt-forward flavors, which include caramel & toasted bread as well as a classic noble hop flavor from the German hops. The beer is named after Jacques-Yves Cousteau’s classic film Le Monde du Silence (The Silent World) released in 1956.

On tap at Los Angeles location.
Not much head development, otherwise good looking, albeit slightly lighter in color fr style.
Nose has the malt profile, thinly, but not much hop notes or detected.
Kind of thin.

Decent, but not fantastic. For me, it could use a little more roasty bitterness to really nail the category, and the finish is just a bit slick- I'd like to see a tad more crispness there. Otherwise, it's quite drinkable and hints at what a really good schwarzbier tastes like.

A: Pours a clear opaque extremely dark cola brown bordering on jet black in color with slightly heavier than moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising quickly along the edges of the glass and moderate chestnut brown + mahogany colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall dense creamy foamy tan head that reduces to a large patch of thin film covering a little more than 90% of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of roasted + chocolate + cracker malts with a minimal amount of toffee sweetness. That is followed by slightly less than moderate aromas of earthy + citrus/grapefruit pith + herbal hops.
T: Upfront there are moderate to strong flavors of roasted + chocolate + cracker malts with a minimal amount of toffee sweetness. That is followed by light to moderate flavors of earthy + citrus/grapefruit pith + herbal hops. Between the roastiness and the hops, there is a light amount of lingering bitterness.
M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Relatively clean.
O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol. Enjoyable with that pleasant combonation of roasty + hoppy flavors without too much associated bitterness (or sweetness). I could have a couple of these.

This pours jet black with a thick foamy head, almost like what you would expect to see from a nitro pour. Strong retention on the head and beautiful lacing. The nose is, well, a roasty lager. Some nice roasty notes over cracker and what I tend to identify as sweet corn. On the tongue it is definitely roasty malt forward with just a hint of lager sweetness behind. Surprisingly crisp, clean finish.
