Look: Pours like it looked in the clear bottle – yellow and nearly clear – with a short-lived, fizzy head that settles, leaving minimal lacing behind

Aroma: Warm bread, some dough, soda crackers, floral hops, pilsner malt, and a nectar-like sweet note

Taste: Cereal grains and pilsner malt start it off as dough and bread also work their way into the fold. Floral hops are center stage in the middle and go back and forth with the malt before the nectar-like sweet note sweeps in to close it out

Mouthfeel: Light, clean, medium-high carbonation, and crisp and clean on the finish

Overall: I dig it. Honestly, between the clear glass bottle and obvious marketing play of the name Pelicano Extra! (looking at you, ‘rona), I hadn’t plopped down money for it since it first showed up 1-2 years ago but happened onto a single today so figured, why not. Never judge a book by its cover as this is solid and was more flavorful than I figured it would be, plus didn’t taste lightstruck at all. I could easily have a few of these while chilling outside for sure

This beer pours a clear golden color with a small to medium white head. Aroma is light grains and spiciness with a hint of sweetness. This is probably the best Mexican Lager I've tasted. Flavorful, spicy, and a good citrus taste from the hops. Very well balanced and crushable. Purchased @ Safeway $9.99. Rated 4-13-2024

mexican lager, and a good one, rather clear, light, bright, simple, refined to a high degree, and no frills like salt and citrus trying to make it something else, its what i would expect from these guys in every way, and it was an awesome introduction to their new lincoln city space, what a facility! looks golden and easy without being watered down, short white head on it is plenty. the aroma and flavor produce some spicy noble hops, true to style, but not saaz to me, which is more common in these mexican lagers and more limey in the finish, this is a little more zippy and zesty and bitter, not out of place but still very northwestern for what this is. the lager yeast isnt quite flavorless but its really light, and the grain is just a hearty pale barley that to me seems more american than european. nuances of dandelion, dried grass, and lemon, but its not supposed to be complex. great carbonation and dry finish make it refreshing but its never boring either. nice with a whole range of appetizers in here, their food is as almost as good as their beer. perfect for a hot sunny summer afternoon, i hope bottles or cans come out to boise! an obvious grab this time of year.

edit: pretty brazen rebrand on this one, in clear glass longneck bottles now, no secret what its trying to go after with this look, and i think it makes great sense for them, but it also lets some light into the beer, and i liked this a little less when i had it from this package, the malt seemed heavier and the body bigger, the crispness was not as pointed, and even though its still a ripper, i found it a bit substantial too, not a bad thing just an observation. i also found a lime wedge to be a good add, a little acid lightens it appreciable. nice beer still, and better than corona on most metrics, ballsy packaging!

If Modelo had a little brother, this would be it. I'm disappointed in the flavor but nevertheless for $5 For a 6-pack from grocery outlet it is everything and more from a lighter beer. Not a bad way to start a night out in PDX. Far from a beach but still makes you think. Thank you pelican for quenching my thirst.

Well, it is what it is. Mission accomplished. Pours a slightly dehydrated piss yellow with a tiny white head that is pretty much non existent. A typical corn syrup sweet nose with perhaps a touch of floral hops. Tastes like your standard Mexican lager with a tad more corn sugar sweetness. Dry as a bone, mild carbonation. Overall, it's a well executed Mexican lager, but I just can't support this trend right now. If I wanted Mexican lager that tastes like Mexican lager, I'd buy a 24 pack of Modelo's for half the price and call it a day. Salud!

Poured from 12oz bottle into a dimpled mug.

Appearance: light golden hue with a dash of haze and a thin finger of frothy white foam; not too bad looking for the style.

Smell: very light malt aroma with just a hint of plastic aroma (rice, maybe?) and an OK amount of hops. It's closer to a mega-lager than a craft-lager, in my opinion.

Taste: lightly sweet malt with some interesting hop flavor. Much better than the aroma suggested it might be. There is definitely still a little macro-lager character, but there's also an almost lemony fruitiness from the hops that is actually really quite good.

Mouthfeel: medium-light body but with a big carbonation and a fizziness appropriate to the style.

Overall: the aroma on this one could definitely use some work, but I like the maintenance of the pale-lager style while still creating an interesting hop profile (at least for the flavor). Definitely a drinkable beer.

A hot Saturday doing yard work, then a cool shower, and a cold beer in the shade. This beer is made for it. A bright, clear pour with a burst of carbonation and a small tight head. Not too much of an aroma, but what there is has hints of biscuit dough. Taste is clean and simple, no adjunct sweetness, just barley malt and hops. Good bit of a light bitterness but clean finish. I like this lager.

Pleasant Mexican inspired Lager. Straw colored like a good Mexican Lager should be. Light flavor nice bright white head when poured into a glass.
I paired it with a bowl of Chili Verde with Sausage and Pumpkin which Aarón Sánchez submitted to the October 2016 issue of the Food Network magazine. Very nice. I would buy it again

Clear gold with one finger of white head. No lacing.
Smell is grain bin corn chip.
Taste is similar to the smell. Grain bin malts a touch of herbal hops.
Mouthfeel is light with good carbonation. Finish is lightly dry.
Overall an alright Mexican lager clone. Why pay a micro price for something that is a match for Pacifico?
I am not changing the numbers but for $5.99 a six pack at Grocery Outlet it is a best buy. When is the last time you saw Pacifico or Corona at that price? 10/27/2017.

Single 12 oz bottle purchased from Trader Joe in Salem OR $1.79 Pours like a typical American lager type product..cooking oil yellow but the head is fluffier and denser white. Aromas same..macro.cardboard, bread, tiny herbal aspect. Simple. Taste yeast, bread, cardboard and honey,,macro all the way Mouth feel is OK..though under carbonated for "style". I am getting this is a Corona clone thing..but the price is not. I can get a better Corona clone in TJs for far less.

Bottle from Boise Co-op. Expected a better lager from these folks, but it’s no better than any of the macros. Why? Very grainy, corn presence throughout. Kind of musty aroma, slick, slimy mouth feel. In this day of craft lagers, this just doesn’t pass the bar. Shame on you, Pelican!
