Birra Lessinia “Iris”
500 ml brown glass bottle coded “Da consumarsi preferibilimente entro la fine di: 06 26 L25084”. Sampled on 26 November 2025
€5,80 @ Panificio De Rossi, Verona, IT
Notes: Brewed with Iris flowers from Lessina. 5.5% ABV. It’s unfiltered and unpasteurized.
Look: A very hazy golden-peach colored body is capped by a short head of white foam that holds well and leaves some decent lacing about the glass.
Smell: The aroma is grainy, sweetly bready, and surprisingly floral.
Taste: I’m quite surprised that the Iris can actually be tasted, and it’s really quite clear. This is labeled as an IPA but I’m not finding any hops to it, just flowers. The malt is just sweet enough to bolster the flowers, and the bitterness is just enough to keep it dry in the finish. The Iris lingers for a long time. It seems very much like violets to me but what do I know?
Feel: Medium bodied and gently crisp.
Overall: It’s a really unique beer, and I appreciate that the brewery is using super-local ingredients.
