this is a tasty ipa by any measure, but it was a disappointment for both me and my homie, as the billed hop lineup of wakatu, citra, and hull melon inspired a lot more excitement in anticipation than they delivered in reality. the citra probably leads the way, but this seems a little off in its proportionality. the bitterness seems to sit on the front end, and the malt in the finish. the dry hopping just doesnt seem to be there, so we lose a lot of what makes these hops so sexy most of the time. its an almost copper colored brew, shiny clear and brassy without much head, it looks more malty than it should be, and in fact it is. it still drinks somehow extremely light though, and we both dug the beer, but in the end, we wanted more of these special hop varietals to come out, especially in the nose, where they were very underwhelming. i like that these guys are always experimenting with recipes and ingredients, and they hit on a lot of them, but this just looks a lot better on paper than it is in reality unfortunately.
