A thanks to the commander of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a golden/orange color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of citrus, honeydew. Taste is grapefruit, honeydew, bitter for the style. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is a fine beer.

The seCANd half of yesterday's Happy New Against the Saugatuck Grain Beer Sunday (Week 699), left me with several more CANs to be added to The CANQuest (tm). Once I CANplete their reviews & ratings, they will become an entry in the current WBAYDN thread.
From the CAN: "Brewer Owned"; "Art & Layout by RobbyDavis.com"; "An Against the Grain and Hoof Hearted Collaboration."; "A vicious display of collaboration! We are parallelled in an obstinate attempt to probe the superiority of hop flavor and aroma, unequal in our lifetime! This crystal clear IPL is a hop lover's dream, featuring our lovely friend Ella, brought to you by our pals at Hoof Hearted Brewing and yours truly!"; "India Pale Lager".
The Crack! released some mild foaming through the vent, so I beCAN a slow, gentle Glug in response. The foaming CANtinued in the glass to form just under two fingers of dense, foamy, French Vanilla-colored head with good retention, leaving nice lacing in its wake. Color was a pretty Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7) with NE-quality clarity, inducing a visit from The Gelt Gang of Midas, Mammon & Croesus. Nose smelled strongly of honeydew, but also of light black pepper, freshly-mown grass & berries, although I could not decide on blueberry, strawberry or both. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not creamy, but definitely big for a Lager. The taste was very spicy, not as much peppery as coriander or something of the like. It also had a definite grassiness, a still-undefined berry flavor and honeydew to round things out. Finish was very dry & quite refreshing on this hot, humid day.

A: The beer is crystal clear yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger and a half high frothy white head that has gradually died down, leaving a short head covering the surface and lots of lacy rings of bubbles around the edges of the glass.
S: Light aromas of grassy and spicy hops are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell, but has stronger flavors of floral, grassy and spicy hops with a light to moderate amount of associated bitterness. There are also some hints of underlying pale malts.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and a little crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This IPL is easy to drink and has nice aromas and flavors imparted by the hops.

Pours slightly hazy dark yellow with thick foamy head. Abundant lacing even after beer is gone. Smell is of mild nondescript malts and hops, maybe a hint of lemon? Taste is bread, lemon, and spices. Feel is crisp and refreshing, appropriate for the style, but a touch dry for the ABV. Not great, but good enough.

Collaboration with Hoof Hearted, an India pale lager featuring Ella hops... clear golden color, few fingers of white foam, lotsa lace lines left behind... Aromas of grassy citrus, kinda earthy, kinda musky... Flavors follow in like kind, grains drawing attention - almost wheaty - rustic with some citrus brightness and a danker undercurrent... Medium-light weight with moderate carbonation and bitterness, muted sweetness; smooth and soft...

1 Pint can
Served in a becker glass
This beer pours golden in color with a slight haze. It is topped with two inches of off white head that leaves some nice lacing.
I get some light citrus and grassy notes.
The taste begins a little sweet and citrusy. That gives way to some lemon and grassy flavor. There is some mild bitterness in the finish.
Moderate mouthfeel
It is a solid IPL. It is easy to drink and flavorful.

From a tall can, this brew is golden in color. It has a brilliant white head. The smell is earthy, floral, and thick with hops. There is some serious fruit as well....I get lots of melon. The taste is balanced, with a bitter mid-taste. Flavorful finish. Nice.

Poured from a 16 oz tallboy can into a Samuel Adams Perfect Pint glass. 05.04.18 on bottom of can.
A: Minimally hazy gold with 2- finger white foamy head with average retention but abundant lacing.
S: High melon, strawberry, floral, and honeysuckle hops aroma, not a lot of the crackery pils maltiness I was looking for
T: Flavor is subdued and muddled with really none of the tropical fruit flavors Ella is known for. Mostly melon and berry with some herbal honeysuckle rose and a bit of pine, light slightly bready malt backing, clean without yeast flavors. Low-medium bitterness.
M: Smooth with even carbonation and medium body at most.
O: Pretty average and certainly not turning me on to Ella hops.
