My first from Mains. He (Mains being a one man shop who loves his beer and his website has photos of him drinking a beer in one hand and petting his dog with the other) reminds me of a home brewer I once knew who also was not a particularly social animal. But we all grow up and if Mains is to survive, he will develop the social side and a website that says what he is really about or intends to do. With the intention of growth, I give him beginner Overall Hugs.
My drinking his kolsch may have had my buds burdened by the competition of a cask ale immediately before this kolsch. But I think I adapted well enough to say Koln Style Ale is merely above average for this hybrid style. Because it involves lagering, this one is clear and has a lasting lace. Smells are barely above average as there is only faint fruit of an ale. Tastes are its equal; and it is very difficult for a newbie to get the that fruit and clean lager balance. There is only a very slight ale-like finish. This is light in my mouth.
I'd like to try another Mains in a few years and see if all my speculation is that or accurate projection. Cheers and Slainte' !

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
