Picked this up way back in March and it’s been in my fridge the whole time. Had four of De Brabandere’s beers before, really liking them and giving them from a 4.12 to a 4.46. Was expecting this in the same vein as I’m a big strawberry fan. Bottle description read, “Trader Joe's Sour Strawberry Ale is a one of a kind sour made from a Wit beer base with sweet strawberry and the sour flora harvested from the oak foeders (barrels) used in making the famous Petrus Aged Pale. These sweet and sour flavors perfectly compliment one another yielding a complex, refreshing taste - only available in this special limited edition.”
Poured an amber semi-clear color with three fingers of off-white rocky head. Could see a few bubbles creeping up along the sides of the glass. World-class foamy layered lacing. Almost perfect retention. (Sight - 4.75)
Smelled strawberry, vanilla, strawberry puree and mixed berry. (Smell - 4.00)
Tasted artificial strawberry, vanilla, strawberry puree, mixed berry, oak, tart and metallic notes. (Taste - 3.75)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, woody finish. (Feel - 3.50)
Not my favorite of their sours, that’s for sure. Very good overall though. (Overall - 3.75)
