this is definitely better than the coffee milk stout, which im guessing is a dosed version of the same beer, love the roast in this, the lightness too, the restrained use of lactose especially, and there is just no need for coffee at all, which is odd for a coffee freak like myself to say, but its true, this is more complete without it, less muddled, a quality stout recipe, light in alcohol but leaning into roast, which im here for, minimal on the middle malts and dark, which to me is almost irish, especially at this abv, but its not, because its not quite to that level, the yeast is neutral, and there is more of a linger even without residual sugar, but its leaning that way, which is a cool place for it to be, and i think this is sneakily good, intentional in ways beyond the general consumer if i am being especially kind to it, its maybe a touch thin, but it does warm up well, and the little bit of vacuous center is covered for in flavor, toffee and dark cocoa and tonka bean or something with a little astringency. maybe a little more brown and reddish than black but its appealing anyway, love the high off white head on it, airy and wispy and as tall as on any of their beers ive has so far. long aftertaste that already has some coffee to it, so while i had the coffee edition first, i didnt realize it was superfluous, but it kind of is, and i see that now. light caramel but still dry, good bitterness, nice overall, although after a pint ive had about enough for a bit. solid overall and i am stoked on the start these guys are off to so far. this would slap on nitro!
