I reach the quarter-mark (25 Hads) for doppelbocks with Granitbock. Being a malt-head, only 25 makes me feel like I'm shirking what I like (but I also tend to have more of the brands I already like in the styles I already like... and I am less venturesome as I reach the Medicare crowd.) As for the beer .....

Granitbock Looked pretty good with a hard pour, but even the lace went away as I finished. What did not dissipate is the almost complete integrity between the Smell (mostly malt and dried fruit) and the Taste (mostly dried fruit and malt.) For mouthfeel, I knocked a few points off because the chocolate after-taste is, well.... something is not quite right.

Would I have this again? Probably only as a taste-off with one of my Top 5... let's say Korbinian.

I put myself in the mood for this with some coffee, chocolate and stuff. I was totally receptive and in the mood for this Austrian treat.

It looks (!) thick. It is a full bodied bock. The aroma is sublime. Like a low alpine flower. Unique.
The taste sours the great aroma a bit, but it is just an acquired taste. I love it.

Highly recommended.

Hofstetten Granitbock pours clean, brilliant brown under a rocky 2” light tan tinted white foam cap. The nose is all bread and malt with some kettle sugars and no hops. The palate is rich dark bread, sweet malt, and dark sugars and a suggestion of toffee with long lingering malt flavors and a touch of hop bitterness on the finish. This is a very rich, creamy, smooth and full bodied beer with medium carbonation.

Nice head to start, but quickly dissipates. Dark, Sweet, reminiscent of a fine Belgian abbey ale, but this is german all the way. Big flavors of raisins, caramel, and black strap molasses. As a doppelbock, it's got the appearance of a porter but the mouthfeel of a much lighter beer. The sweetness creates a slight syrupy quality.

Clear brown colored beer with next to no head formation.

Smells sweet. Scents of malt nuts and grass. Fair scent of molasses. Smells fairly woody and has a strong tea aroma.

Starts out sweet with a taste of tobacco. Medium level of bitterness and some nuts, it has a very clean finish for the style.

Mouthfeel is good.

Tasty and user friendly Bock beer this is worth a taste.

This was a hazy chestnut brown, it poured with a small off-white head. It smells of molasdes, raisins, sweet bread, and some roasty cocoa. I kinda get some boozy fruitcake.

This doesn't quite deliver what the smell promises. Sweet fruitcake up front a drier, roasty cocoa finish that is a bit chalky. Silky smooth body.

Pretty good doppelbock, not one I'd revisit though.
