my first from this sante series, so sick to find random fantome bottles, one of my favorite things in this life, even when they are old and weird and all green glassed out, never bothers me! love fantome so much. anyway this was a cool score, i think its done with blood oranges and herbs, odd to even know whats in one of their beers, unless its in the name. this is a brown sort of saison type, weird as so many of them are, and definitely a little tired tasting, found it on a warm shelf which never helps. the pour is murky pale reddish brown, fizzy but not holding a ton of head, good amount of sediment at the bottom. funky nose, not bretty but with familiar fantome yeast, spicy like white peppercorn, estery like more familiar belgian strains, a hint of overripe banana, a little nutmeg, and a distinct herbal bitterness, not really fruity at all to me. the flavor has a little pop of up front acidity but its not vinegar or anything, smoothed out almost instantly by a dry cocoa thing from some of the malt, its nutty and toasted too, hearty and autumnal, and still bitter all the way through it, maybe some citrus peel effect there, a black tea note too, raisins and dates, some faint middle sweetness, wet paper. the ferment is cool, the flavors are strange, but its oddly cohesive and good, nicely carbonated and sort of intriguing enough to sip on that all of a sudden the bottle is gone. always special to drink fantome beer, a heck of a nightcap for my wife and i on a very special evening. it should also be noted how the corkscrew was broken at our rental, and she brilliantly extracted the cork in one piece with a butter knife right when i thought all was lost, what a legend!

Bottle. Beige head. Copper amber color.
A lot of apple notes. Some tartness. Baking spices. Honey. Belgian spice flavor. Some peach. A really solid saison from Fantome. Very drinkable.
