Bottle from John’s poured into tulip. A little bit reminiscent of Orval.

I had this on draft 1/11/24 @ the Hopleaf.
Semi-opaque dark orange appearance.
Small white head; nice lacing remained.
Banana, biscuit & fresh artisanal soap notes in the nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Banana & biscuit flavors up front; apple cider notes on the finish.
Pleasant & flavorful; I'd have another!

A - Pours a cloudy Copper colour with a bid White head that retains and laces.
S - Not too much going on here, spicy hop
T – Well some nice malt, hop up front, the finish is clean and balanced
M – Light to medium with medium carbonation
O – A classic Belgian ale that is sessionable and would go well with food such as Bratwurst etc

A very good table beer. Finishes semi-dry, but not hoppy. I have paired it still well with a pasta bowl of pesto and bowl of red sauce. And I think it will work well with most dishes using grains and butter fat.
I must confess, I've been wary of De Ranke... despite my buying all ales Belgian. This small shop tended to be hoppy when I started, but I'm finding more to please the malt-head in me and Franc Belge continues that trend.
Franc Belge Looks like it will be fun with a big head. Smells modestly fruity and even more modestly spicy. Tastes start balanced; but as the cycle progresses, it becomes semi-dry and continues with the aid of something more than hops. A nice, bubbly body to boot.
5/2/20 revised the above, but did not change the rating. This is one of those ales I'd like to have at the table more often... but so few meals and so many wonderful Belgians. I took a look at De Ranke's website and decided not to put them on my BBBL (Belgian Brewer Bucket List) because they have no restaurant. But when I do make it to the Promised Land, I'm will certainly root around for their brews not distributed in the States. But for every Franc Belge I enjoy here, I'm keeping count over at Untappd.

Pours a filtered amber color with a bigger, noisy head.
Smells of matured hops, bakers chocolate and autumn spices.
Has a very vivid, well carbonated, lighter mouthfeel with a smoother ending in the finish.
Tastes of coppery caramel malts and dry, well pronounced herbal hops. Hops grow even more profound then, exhibiting a piney spruce impression among sweet wild honey. Finishes spicy, with kardamom and allspice, together with a maintaining, dry hop presence.
This is tasty indeed, with a well rounded balance and perfectly working dryness among sweet malts.
