I had a taster of this brew as soon as we walked in... I decided on the APA first ... but as we settled in, I wanted to go outside my normal boundaries.. I normally don't like fruit beers, but "Jake's Huckleberry Hefeweizen" was an exception..
The nose is big huckleberry candy.. not alot else going on.. there is enough malty sweetness to really push the fruity aroma through.. smells yummy.
The flavor mirrors the nose exactly with the fruity sour acidity making me want another sip again and again .. the fruit is the big player here.. I doubt a German yeast is used.. instead likely a house yeast with the wheat to help dry it out and make the fruit flavors shine... The body is fairly light with a good carbonation.. and the drinkability is fairly high for one pint.. but after that, I would be looking toward anything else with more of an actual "beer" backbone.
Overall, again.. I normally don't like fruit beers, but for some reason, Huckleberry beers have a soft spot in my palate.. probably because when I drink them, they are generally fresh.. the sour and fruity components play very well with what I expect a fruit beer to be... that said, it would be very interesting to see the berries put into something like a Wit or a proper German Hefe.. Jake.... if you do it, make sure to send me some hand-bottles.. No Shit :-)

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
