Maibock
- Lakefront Brewery
Look: 4.0 l 5.0
Crystal clear amber leaning toward orange. The head is off-white, dense at first then dissipates, leaving some lace. Pours well into the glass, SRM seems higher than expected for a Maibock, around 11 ---closer to Belgian triple territory.
Smell: 4.0 l 5.0
Light clover honey and dried fruit, more apple than raisin on second approach I smelled dark cherry.
Taste: 3.75 / 5.0
Malt character is subtle, almost hidden If it's too cold, but It really wakes up somewhere above 50°. Fruity notes apple of apple and raisin dominate until the malt comes into play.
Mouthfeel: 3.75/5.0
It is German Maibock Smooth, and has a late dryness which offsets sweetness of the dried fruit ---carbonation is adequate, and rounds out the profile well. Its not bitter but a little punchy like a Maibock should be.
Overall: 3.75/5.0
It's a textbook German-style Maibock. The 6.8% ABV is present and understated --- I mean it drinks higher than that. The carbonation balances, the sweetness while the hops taper it into to a slightly dry ending..

16oz can dated BB02JUN25 so just past best. Let's see how it stands up.
1/2" of tight off-white bubbles recedes to nothing and sparse falling lacing quickly leaves a clean glass behind. The orange body glows when backlit, but looks a bit dull otherwise.
Aroma includes a slight fruity note above the malt, but even that is minimal.
Flavor of beer is obvious, does not hit you over the head, but may be less than planned malt forward, without being sweet, and finishes with a slight bitterness.
Mouthfeel is soft and clean.
Overall I'd bet this was a solid spring beer, but seems to be missing something. Certainly not offensive in any way, just not it's best.

I wasn't familiar with this brewery since they're in a different state, so when I saw this on the shelf I decided to pick up a six-pack. I'm glad I did - this is a very good maibock. It's maybe a touch high on the ABV compared to most German lagers, but the sweetness of the malt almost makes it seem like an imperial-esque Vienna lager from their neighbors in Austria. The flavor profile is very similar between this beer and that style. This isn't a very popular style these days but of the few I've tried, I would rate this one the best.

Easily the best of the domestic Maibocks. Unfortunately Hacker Pschorr stopped importing Maibock several years ago. Really miss the HP “mind block”.

Color is a deep amber bordering on a pale burnt orange/copper. Quite clear with a quick dissipating slightly off white head.
Aroma is dominated by strong caramel, brown sugar, and bready/crackery malt notes. Also got some orange/lemon zest citrus, subtle earthy hops, and faint peppery notes.
Taste follows suit, heavy on the caramel/brown sugar character. Didn't really get any of those citrus notes on the palate. Earthy hop bitterness is there throughout to help balance the sweetness.
Mouthfeel was lower side of medium with moderate carbonation. Felt appropriate for the style.
Overall a solid maibock, perfect for a chilly spring day here in Wisconsin. It's not my favorite style and probably would want to switch to something else have after one of them, mostly due to to dominant caramel flavor. Would definitely buy again, however. As far as price goes, 6-pack of bottles at local supermarket was $9.99.

It's maibock season again, and Lakefront has brought back their excellent Bavarian-style brew. The color is clear amber, pouring a large but loose head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is brown sugar and raisins, which carries through to the taste. Finish is crisp and dry. Medium body.

This is a 12oz. bottle poured into the Lakefront pint glass. This beer started with a small half inch cap that quickly receded. This Lager is a clear orange, amber color, with very light carbonation.
The aroma is sweet and malty.
The taste follows the nose, sweet, bread malts, with a very light spice finish.
This has a medium feel, very light pepper hop finish, cutting the sweetness nicely!
This is an easy one to drink and goes well with a big German pretzel.

Pours a clear golden orange, small, quickly fading white head no lacing. Snot factory gets some bready malt, a bit of caramel and a little hops, taste buds agree with that assessment. A bit thin, continously rising carbonation. A really nice beer, sweetens as it warms.

12oz bottle. Label has best by date stamp of '06JUL22'.
Clear, deeper amber colored body. Quickly dissipating off white head. No lacing left except for very tiny white spots.
Aroma is lightly roasted malts with caramel and nuts. Has a top whiff of corned citrus.
Taste follows the smell, with lots of caramel and nutty malts. Slight fruity touch but no real citrus as in the nose.
Medium mouth feel. Has a harsh expression. Okay carbonation.
Ultimately, this is a caramel nut bomb, that is best imbibed cold. Gets more harsh as it warms.

Losing out on a house offer seems like enough of an excuse to pop the top on a beer, and this one was sitting in the front. An almost sweet citrus-zested cinnamon pastry scent came after the cap was lifted. About one finger of slightly off-white foam developed then quickly receded into the truly amber transparency that was poured. In the glass, the scent was a little sharper with the citrus more prevalent. Unexpectedly round, it tasted first and last of citrus though not very astringent on either end. It was ever-so-slightly rough on first sip, but that dissipated at the swallow. In the middle, a distinct sourness appeared that was a little more like bile than citrus... so not exactly what I had in mind. Honestly, I'm not entirely sure I'm going to finish the bottle, and I certainly won't be getting it again.

"Best by 7/6/22"; drank 3/17/22 @ the Yarchives.
See-through dark orange appearance.
A rough pour yielded a small khaki head; minimal lace.
Caramel, acorn, mild orange peel & faint booze heat notes in the nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Caramel & acorn flavors up front; mild citrus & faint booze heat notes on the finish.
A great early spring / late fall vibe here.
