Lighter brown clear body with burnt orange highlights. Some white foam on surface, but not even a whole layer, lacing on glass. Smells boozy with raisin, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, and earthy malt. Taste is similar with more breadiness, some pine, and a tootsie roll like complexion with the bourbon being pretty hot. Feel is thin for a doppel, but has appropriate levels of grain and malt textures

L - Dark orange-red. Slight haze. Short off-white head, not persistent.

S - Rich sweet malts. Caramel and toffee; dark fruit; vanilla.

T - Very rich. Sweet and malty. Dark fruit and toffee, vanilla is there too. Hint of alcohol.

F - Medium-full.

O - Flavorful, malty beer that melds well with the bourbon infusion.

This one poured amber, bordering on a ruby hue. Transparent.

Excellent aroma - expected dark fruit notes, with some vanilla and earthiness.

The barrel carried the flavor with prominent vanilla and a noticeable nip of bourbon, without being overpowering.

It was a little bit thin for style, especially after time in the barrel, but I liked this one a lot.

12oz bottled 1/21/19 (1 month ago) poured into a snifter at fridge temp 10.3% ABV per label. The beer pours bright medium amber in color with off white head. The head recedes to a thick ring. Slight lacing. The aroma is minimal with sweet malt and oak. The taste is semisweet malt with mild bourbon, oak and vanilla showing up in the finish. No perceptible bitterness. The mouthfeel is just less than medium bodied with less than medium carbonation and a semi dry finish. No alcohol presence in the aroma or taste. Overall, very good. This is really thin for a doppelbock. The barrel is a nice subtle addition, but I think the base beer is a bit weak. Very little bourbon, but that's a plus for me with this style.

Poured 12oz bottle into tulip glass. It is a mahogany with deep amber highlights and a foamy 2.5 sandy colored head that fades slowly with light spotty lacing. Sweet aroma of dark fruits -fig, plum, and raisin- along with waves of toffee and caramel. The bourbon and vanilla complement the sugary malts. Taste follows with delightful malty and toffee with flavors of vanilla caramel, and ripe figs, raisins followed by hints of bourbon. Feel is rich and smooth, medium bodied, soft carbonation. The dopplebock held up well in the barrels and turned out delicious.
