This Imperial Oatmeal Stout sat in bourbon barrels for 22 months, just waiting to get into a snifter. Chewy and chocolatey deliciousness meets barrel flavors of vanilla, oak plank, toasted almonds and dried cherries.

Poured from a 12 oz. can.
L = Deep, beautiful Espresso black/ brown color. 1 inch medium brown head looked rich, but was completely gone in 3 minutes, with truly scant lacing. If it retained any head, it would have been a 4.5.
S = Oak, bourbon, malt, coffee, chocolate, hops, earthy tones, The nose is robust, and welcoming.
T = All the flavors of the nose plus cherry are present, and the taste is very good, but the aftertaste is a bit too powerful. I suppose the 13.8% ABV has something to do with it. Bourbon is the dominant aftertaste flavor, with a saccharine note.
F = A tad sticky, but quite expected, given the high alcohol content. Actually modestly sticky, in that context.
O = As a big fan of Lakefront Imperial Pumpkin, I can taste and appreciate the Lakefront approach to Bourbon Barrel aged beers. I suspect I will grow more comfortable with the aftertaste, which will fade in importance. Overall, this is one fine brew, and will be appreciated by most lovers of high octane bourbon barrel stouts.

From a 12oz can:

Appearance: Black, small head fades out relatively quickly.

Smell: Big molasses note, dark chocolate, wood, booze.

Taste: Moderate chocolate/milk chocolate at first, then a transition into barrel wood and a little booziness. Kind of a weird mouthfeel, creamy at first but turns thin with the booze. Finishes with mild chocolate and a little alcohol burn.

Overall: Another interesting experiment beer, 22 months in barrels. Starts out pretty strong but the barrel kind of dominates the latter half. Glad to give it a try!
