Lancaster Brewing Co. "Doppelbock"
on tap at the brewery on 11 April 2017
$5.75 / 20 oz.
Notes: Listed at 8.6% ABV and 25 IBUs. Clear deep mahogany brown body with amber and orange highlights beneath a frothy-then-creamy head of off-white. The retention is good, and it holds fairly well considering its strength, but it does eventually drop to an average collar. The nose displays a combination of grainy, medium and darkly caramelish and gently toasty and nutty malts. Background hops are floral, grassy, and spicy on nature. In the mouth it's crisp, medium to medium-full in body, and fine-bubbled. The flavor is surprisingly fruity with a mix of dark skinned fruit with some red fruits (apple, beery, etc.). The maltiness remains, bready and caramelish with a suggestion of some light milk chocolate, and an underlying alcohol. The bitterness is balancing, and and it finishes dry with some lingering toasty and caramelish malt.
