Actually, at 7.3% ABV, it runs a little mild for being "wee heavy". Two twelve ounce cans emptied into a clear glass liter mug filled the vessel. It's a shade less dark brown than the black coffee brown of many porters and stouts. The reasonable head is biege, or light tan and it persists. There's no problem with the visual, but the smell is bothersome. There's almost no evidence of roasted malt and overall, this is terribly light with aroma. It's not devoid of flavor, but it's a flavor akin to prune juice, somewhat sour prune juice. Maybe it's the Fuggles hops, but this just doesn't bring the expected malty density and sweetness expected from this style. The aftertaste is far more earthy and sour than one would expect from a Wee Heavy. The body is OK, but not close to heavy, one of the attributes of this style. The stratified glass lacing is nice and the relatively mild, for the style, ABV is well-hidden. Perhaps that's a negative, as a little taste of the alcohol might have sweetened this up closer to what most expect from a Scotch Ale. Within the confines of its self described category, this falls short. This is so sour, it may be a bad batch.
