Prototypical WCIPA, but that’s not a knock on this full-bodied, creamy, hoppy, fruity ipa. It checks all the boxes, and makes you happy to be able to have access to this style in these glory days of craft brewing. If you were to introduce someone to a WCIPA, you could hardly go wrong by using this. Mmmmm….

Poured from a 19.2 ounce undated can into a snifter at 50 degrees.

Look- Deep gold, very mild haziness, slightly off white creamy head, above average head retention and lacing.

Smell- Pine, bready, floral, slight citrus, medium strength of scent.

Taste- Extremely malty, slight pine, slight candied orange, high strength of flavor.

Feel- Medium body, average carbonation, highly bitter, mildly creamy, moderately astringent.

Overall- Appearance was deep gold with above average head retention and lacing. Bouquet was pine with malt that prevented other aromas from shining through. Flavor was very malt forward to the point of pushing almost anything else out of existence. Feel was medium body, but the astringency reduced enjoyment. Overall this was a malt bomb of an IPA, that was anything but juicy. This beer provided a terrible drinking experience and I really wanted to dump it, but that’s just not me. This was a gift from a friend, but I would have never bought it without a born on date. I have a concert that I’m attending at the brewery in a couple of weeks, hopefully I have better luck straight from the source.

19.2oz stovepipe can purchased at the grocery store next door to woemad world headquarters for $3.29. No freshness date.

Poured into a Big Sky Brewing shaker pint glass, this was a clear, coppery shade of amber. Lots of bubbles could be seen arcing skyward towards the big, pillowy off-white head, which took a while to drop and left sheets of lace on the sides of the glass.

Nose is of flowery, fruity hops and grainy malts.

The malts are practically an equal partner with the hops in the flavor department. There's a collision between hops that are providing a flavor that is a cross between grapefruit and tropical fruits, and a big, cereal grain flavor. Finishes relatively mild and soft for something labeled "juicy."

Medium bodied, with a relatively chewy mouth feel.

Sometimes Big Sky IPAs will seem akin to those brewed to the west of Missoula, and some seem more like mid western America in style. This is one of the latter. It's certainly not undrinkable, but I prefer more emphasis on hops than malts in my DIPAs.

19.2oz can. Poured out a slightly cloudy, golden orange color with a small, white head of foam. It left some lacing. It smelled orange, pineapple, mango and caramel. Sweet fruity taste with toasted caramel and a piney bitterness.

Draft at Jumpin' Janet's. Clear golden pour, spotty head, rings of lacing. Malty aroma with a light fruity edge. Taste brings light tropical notes, fruity, trailing bitterness, full, earthy, abrupt finish. A bit dry.
