On-draught @ the brewery:

Artificial mango runs amok. Sticky and sweet.

Cloying for an imperial IPA.

after not loving original shake a day, i liked this one quite a lot. i mean, you have to love mango, as the fruit is lightyears out in front of any hops, almost so intense as to be unlikely as real fruit, unless it was back sweetened with mango juice or something, but it doesnt taste inauthentic to me, just really strongly dosed. i think all the fruit covers up any alcohol, this drinks almost like juice, im sure its going to be a crowd pleaser this summer, but look out, over 8% abv and no sign of it! close to clear and very pale, lighter looking than it is, average but lasting white head on top. smells of candied mango, slightly tart juicy real mango, and maybe just a little floral perfume thing, some grapefruit and pine notes from the hops back there, maybe a little catty mosaic thing too, but this is fruit before hops easily, and thats true in the taste too, a bit much on the mango but the flavor is good, a little more hop bitterness late or dry hop character early would balance it better, more of just a fruit beer like it is, but it makes it approachable i suppose in this style. very light on the grain side which makes sense for warmer weather, and the ferment is pretty tidy, only lightly metallic at temperature, again real well hidden alcohol, and there is great carbonation to this, real drinkable for what it is. maybe over the top a bit on the mango, but i think this one is a success, preferrable to the original for me. first new one i have seen from these guys in a long time...
