Despite what so many people think (in the states and otherwise) the french really don't brew saisons! To my knowlege, this is the only french brewed saison (granted, the family that owns and operates this brewpub is Belgian and their establishment is located 1km south of the Belgian border).

Have had this beer on several occasions but felt it was time to revisit it.

Pours a semi murky orange hue (tons of floaties, they ship their beer on it's side like lambics and as such the yeast takes forever to settle to the bottom).

Nose; zesty herbals and spicy yeast with some fruitiness.

Taste; tons of fruity flavors upfront balanced with herbal and yeasty notes, finishing with a touch of citrus acidity and funk.

Overall, soft on the palate, alcohol (7%) is well hidden and there is some solid diversity in regards to the taste profile. The french brewers have started bringing the funk, they just need to get on a bit more...I'm looking to help out in regards to that! If you find yourself visiting Paris, this beer is almost always available at La Cave a Bulles and is definitely worth a try (as is Cuvee des Jonquilles...the epitome of Biere de Garde!)

Light amber color with a big bubbly head that fizzles down and sticks at around 1 finger. Aroma is very fruity and inviting with just a hint of spiciness characteristic of the yeasts from this region. Taste is vanilla yogurt with some light fruity notes, notably pear and apricot. Sweetness and slight sweet breadiness like a sugar cookie. Slight spiciness in the finish. Mouthfeel has some effervescence to it. Carbonation is appropriate for the style. This is the second bottle I have had. I didn't review the first one - I wanted to note that it was equally good, but definitely different. I think it was because I kicked up the yeast a bit in this one by accident - I'm pretty sure this is the reason for the yogurt taste.

App: Reddish orange to golden color. Pretty clear with some floaties, likely from yeast sediment and no filtration. Good. Ok head and good lacing.

Aroma: Honey, malt and spicy sweetness. Some underlying alcohol warmth. Blended and soft fruity ester characters. I'm missing the earthiness and spice from a good saison.

Taste: Fairly flat overall, and still missing that level of good carb and spice bite.Solid underlying sweet earthiness and almost fruitloop like notes. Dry only very late, not a crispness throughout.

Mouth: Very soft and smooth but pretty light bodied, too much so. Very present but subtle carbonation.

Drink: Overall, pretty drinkable and not too many dominant flavors.

Preferably drank by end of 2007. Nice white head that's overwelming cause of high carbonisationlevel and stays well and a bronze beercollor with some haze of quiet big particles. Nose is litle smoked like and spiced with pumpkin and apricotfruit. Spicyness of some sweet gale and other herbs but dominating the maltaromes. Taste is very peppered and strong comming to me far higher as listed 7% but full and a hint sweet maltyness, honey like comming in also. Fine brew though IMO litle over spiced in taste and mouthfeel. Well drinkable and enjoyable beer.
