I drank a lot of this when I lived in Leipzig. Last drink was on a visit in 2013.

Color: rich dark brown; Head: darkish, lacy, persistent; Smell: malty, chocolatey; Taste: less malty than promised by the smell, still good, hopping just about right for a dark; Mouth feel: balanced CO2 and malt "body", with not too much of either.

Had on-tap in Leipzig at the Thomaskirch brauhaus. Poured into a tall pint glass.

L: Poured a deep brown, almost black. Cloudy with thick tan head. Nice lacing.

S: Roasted grains and malts. Hints of chocolate and coffee.

T/F: Smoky roasted grains. Nice malt sweetness and chocolate. Hops present on the back end. Moderately carbonated and a bit thick.

O: Very nice schwarzbeer. Good flavor and nice complexity. Recommended.

This beer poured a deep, murky brown color with creamy, light brown foam that settled and clung to the glass. The smell was of chocolate malt and piney hops with cocoa notes and some roasted notes, reminiscent of a black IPA. The taste was richly malty and roasty, with a touch of sweetness toward the finish. Notes of cocoa in the flavor as well, and there was a nice, hoppy finish. The mouthfeel was smooth and dry overall with medium to medium-full body and good carbonation. There was a nice hoppy finish. Overall a very nice Schwarzbier.
