Hazy, orange color. Big, white head. Yeasts, malt, fruits, and herbs in the aroma. The taste is rather sweet for the style. Lacks the "crushability " of a Saison, but the brewery was going for an "Imperial" so that is understandable.

Blue Point Brewing Co. "Saison Du Point"
16 fl. oz. can with a "BEST BY DATE" of "04DEC21 BP 0753". Sampled on 26JAN22.
$4.99 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes via stream of consciousness: It looks like I've got an old beer here. I did check the can but I thought that 04DEC21 was the packaging date. Oh well, it's a saison at 9% ABV so I'm sure it'll be fine. Is there anything unusual about it? Ah, yes, it's brewed with Gewürztraminer grape juice. It's poured a very hazy golden colored body with a bit of an orange sheen to it. The head is an inch or so of bright white foam. I actually get the grape in the aroma, which I wasn't expecting. There's some sweet malt there as well but I'm not finding any Belgian yeast character. Maybe I need to let it warm up a bit. What's there is kind of floral, tropical, and sweet. It smells like passionfruit, lychee, and bubblegum. Maybe I am getting Belgian yeast character! The head has dropped at this point and I have a thin but solid cap of foam. I'd guess it's between an eighth and quarter inch thick. The taste is a little different than the aroma suggests. It's neither as fruity or sweet as I thought it would be. There's a spiciness to it that's definitely coming from the yeast and that helps to balance it out. It's slightly sharp as well with some acidity to it, which also cuts through the sugary malt. And, last but not least, there's a touch of alcohol as well. I'm getting passionfruit, roses, peppercorn, clove, earthiness, lychee, white grape, wet straw, grassiness, orange, and candied lemon. It's really quite nice, and superbly balanced. It's sweetish, fruity, and acidic upfront but then drier and peppery in the finish. The tropical fruit side is nice as well and I wonder what hops they used. OK, what's left? Mouthfeel. It's surprisingly medium to maybe even medium-full for a beer of 9%. The carbonation is moderate for a saison but I think if it was higher it would throw off the balance that they've got going on. Would that be good or bad, I don't know, I'm just pointing out that it's not as effervescent as a lot of the saisons out there. The head dropped fairly quickly at first but then formed a very nice, short but creamy cap and held it, so there's that, and then it left some really nice lacing. I can't really find any fault with this beer other than maybe it's a bit too hazy, but hey, maybe that's part of why it's got such a nice mouthfeel as well. I'd certainly grab a few more of these if I could.

Look: Pours a hazy golden yellow with a satin white, two finger head of rocky foam. Great lacing.

Aroma: Banana, bubblegum and clove with a sweet/savory undertone of orange and grapefruit.

Taste: Fairly sweet for the style, but it's rounded out by a pleasant vinous, funky white grape must flavor. Upfront sweet bubblegum and banana with malty notes of sugary cereal and nilla cookies. Midpalate features funky suggestions of white grape must, it's not over the top but just enough to balance out the initial sweetness. I'm getting very minimal barnyard notes. The entire experience is blanketed by a gentle, floral, mild cilantro / white sage like flavor. Notes of sweet orange and pineapple here and there.

Feel: Heavy body, high carbonation. Very rich. Too rich perhaps.

Overall: There are some decent flavors going on here - don't get me wrong, the beer doesn't taste bad, not in the slightest - it's just too sweet and rich for the style. I know they were going for an imperial here, but in my opinion saisons should always be dry with very little to no sugar or sweetness.

I wasn't crazy about this beer at first, but it's grown on me as I worked my way through the four pack over the course of a month.

Pours a super hazy golden orange color with a tight puffy white head that left some webby lacing on the glass.

The aroma is of that beautiful Saison Du Pont yeast. Big farmhouse notes, hay, horse blanket, tart lemon and grapes.

The taste is of farmhouse and hay, tart lemon and a good amount of this Gewurztraminer grape juice that was added. Not as bold as it was in the nose.

The feel moderate with prickly carbonation. Starts off sweet but finishes with a grape tartness. A tad dry in the finish. The 9% ABV is a little noticeable but not hot.

Great saison. Not sure if this is a collaboration between Blue Point and Brasserie-Dupont or if they got permission to use their yeast. Clever name for the beer. Its a bit too hazy for the style but I imagine that is from the juice. It is also very big at 9%. I feel that a saison should be sessionable around 6%. However the nose and the flavors are great. I enjoyed this.
