16oz can. Poured out a clear, golden orange color with a small, off-white head of fluffy foam. It left thin trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of pineapple, orange, grapefruit and sweet caramel. Sweet pineapple taste with citrus, sharp pine and toasted caramel.

Full Circle Brewing Co. "Captain Save A Hop With Pineapple"
16 fl. oz. can; the ink jet canning date is illegible but it looks like it was in Feb. '02. Sampled on 07/18/22
$4.29 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: I had no idea that there was a regular Captain Save A Hop as I've only ever seen the pineapple version. Interesting. It's a cloudy amber beneath a finger's width of creamy off-white foam. The aroma clearly expresses pineapple so at least they go that right. There's some sweetish and bready malt as well, and I'm assuming hops but I can't pick them out through the pineapple. On to the taste... the malt is sweetish, bready, wheaty, and lightly caramelish. It supports the hops and pineapple without becoming so much that it distracts, although the pineapple is headed in that direction. I'm getting some floral character and notes of orange, mango, lemon, pine, and a general spiciness. A firm bitterness balances it and it finishes mainly dry with some malt and pineapple fading as spicy, piney, and earthy notes emerge and then linger. In the mouth it's the usual 'medium bodied and crisp'. The head held up well and it's left solid walls of thin & spotty lace which is nice. I'm not sure how much pineapple this thing needed as it seems like a decent beer underneath, and I'm quite curious to taste the original. As it is, I see it as being a little bit overdone which throws off my score for "overall" but everything else stacks up nicely.

This beer is essentially undrinkable. Everything about it was fine except the taste. Just bad. It even made the pizza I was eating with it worse, which I didn't think was possible. Maybe the 16oz can I tried was stored/shipped poorly? I can only hope, because this beer was absolutely terrible.

Decent West Coast IPA. I haven't tried the non-pineapple Version, I'm sure it's solid though because this tasted like they got it and just dropped some pineapple flavoring into it. Flavor starts as an IPA but the fakish pineapple flavor lingers. It's OK but I def wouldn't buy again.
