Rising up to the challenge of our rival with this champion! The name says it all - lemon meringue pie in a can. This one is a pleasant, not overpowering, sour beer with a tartness of lemon that is balanced by sweet vanilla and graham cracker. Grab a slice. Wait, we mean, a pint!

Canned 07/21/21

Appearance - Pours hazy and orange in color with an off-white, half finger width head that fizzes away quickly, leaving a barren surface in it's wake.

Smell - Prominent lemon aroma with a hint of vanilla sweetness.

Taste - Follows the nose. Lemony tartness dominates from start to finish, though a hint of cream can be found near the finish. Is that a trace of graham cracker or am I imagining things? It's faint. Aftertaste continues with lemon zing on the tongue, while the vanilla creeps in ever so slightly more, though not enough to give this beer a true 1-2 punch.

Mouthfeel - Light in body with bitey carbonation. Slick, easy drinker with a dry finish.

Overall - Solid sour. Emphasis on sour. I would've liked to see a bit more of that vanilla, lactose and graham cracker to help balance out the force of the lemony tartness on display here. Is there enough here to say it's a lemon meringue pie inspired brew? I suppose. Is it balanced? No.

16oz canned on 07/21/21. Sample from the brewery. Sour ale brewed with lemon, vanilla, and lactose. 6% ABV

Dark orangey-peach, near opaque with a crackling white head that dies (no head or lace) in less than 15 seconds. A solid does of vanilla in the nose, that's a bit marshmallowy, with a dusting of graham flour, hay, apple, and some lemon zest. Light-bodied, but smooth and fairly still. Big smack of lemon tartness upfront with some green apple in the back. It's like biting into a lemon slice at first. A soft lactose sweetness attempts to cut through, but struggles so it calls in help from its friend vanilla to help smooth and balance things out. The two work together in providing some baked meringue-like flavors too. Hints of graham cracker crust pull through as the beer warms. Finish is dry and a bit doughy with a lemon rind linger.

It's not much to look at, but it smells and tastes as advertised; a Lemon Meringue Pie in a can. A brighter yellow beer with some creamy white foam that sticks around would've made me think of Lemon Meringue Pie a bit more. Anyway. What I really like about this beer is that it opens up and gets better as it warms. Less acidic, more pronounced vanilla, and the malt profile lends more of a pie crust perception.
