On tap - puts a pale gold clear lager in the flute with a 1 finger rocky white cap, Aroma is rich with biscuit malt and some floral-earthy notes - flavor is 2 dimensional but well balanced between chewy cereals and woody noble hopping - clean wet finish malt forward - light sweetness at the end. Not a bad lager but misses the mark as a Munich styled helles - needs better attenuation.

This brew nailed all the marks, clean golden colour thumb of bright white head, solid retention and lacing. Nice grassy and biscuit notes on the nose. Flavour is clean and crisp with biscuit and grainy notes alongside nice grassy hops notes. Well executed and something I could crush all day long.

Tallboy can from the LCBO; dated Dec 15 2016 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a clear, sunny, effervescent pale golden-yellow colour, capped off with a long-lasted, half-inch crown of soapy foam. It seeps away gradually over the next 5-10 minutes, slowly transforming into a lumpy cap and wide collar, surrounded by a coating of gorgeous lace. A very attractive lager. The aroma is subtle and clean, consisting mostly of grainy pale barley malts, grassy hay, and lightly spicy noble hop notes; hints of crackery dough sweetness.
Not a bad take on a somewhat unappreciated style - clean, pale barley malts and noble hops dictate the entirety of the flavour profile. Grain husks and crackery sweetness at the forefront, with just a hint of white grape skin, which leads into the grassy hay and floral, spicy notes imbued by the noble hops. Finishes with a grassy bitterness that quickly weakens and disappears from the palate, paving the way for an off-dry conclusion. Appropriately assertive carbonation levels, which give this light-bodied pale lager a crisp, lively mouthfeel. Very refreshing, with excellent drinkability - I could easily drink can after can of this, and I think most German lager fans would agree with that assessment.
Final Grade: 4.00, an A-. Amsterdam's 2017 Helles Golden Lager is exactly what I was hoping it'd be - a straightforward, proper Munich Helles that tastes great and drinks like a dream. I'm not a cicerone or anything, but stylistically I think they nailed it. Pale lagers don't seem to be a primary focus of most Ontario craft brewers, but between this and their Starke Pils, Amsterdam has done these styles more justice than most. If you appreciate a quality German-style pale lager, keep an eye out for this one - it's as good as the imports, if not better.

473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. 17 IBU's on this 30th anniversary beer. Purchased from the LCBO for about $3 CDN.
Appearance - truly bright and golden with a dazzling display of bubbles, fantastic clarity and a puffy finger and a half of white head. Good staying power and a sheet of lacing around the edges of the glass.
Smell- noble hops, coarse grain with a grassy aspect and just a little pepper.
Taste - coarse grain, some crackers bits, middling sweetness and simultaneously bitterness. No where to hide the flaws, the execution on this is excellent.
Mouthfeel - great carbonation, super smooth and easy drinking. A reminder why this is one of my favourite styles.
Overall - simply put a great helles lager and excellent execution. Super yummy and I can see myself picking up a few more of these over the holidays.
