this one really didnt survive the trip to the states very well, it has some elements of a traditional dunkel, but then also has this weird fruit vinegar tartness to it that seems like a young bacterial infection, disappointing, because i think there is a lot of potential here, but this is probably the kind of thing that needs to be consumed a little closer to the source to get the right experience, cant be too harsh on it now. its cool this place even exists. the beer pours a nice crimson shade, clearish, with a really airy but intricate white head, looks great. i smell some nice nutty malt, a kilned, dry, richness to the base, and some interesting lager yeast that seems not classically german to me, but then the tangy thing, like dried cherry and red wine vinegar. its subtle in the taste but more pronounced when i taste it, and i cant drink the whole beer as much as i try, this is off. carbonation is high and the body is light, without much sweetness for how malt driven this is, but the feel matters very little when the flavor tastes so off. i will reserve further judgement until i can get myself down there and try this without it having to make such a long journey to my glass...

Brown color with a thin head with short retention.
Aroma with notes of chocolate, cocoa powder, a bit of homemade coffee and caramels.
Sweet malty flavor with notes of caramels (lots of it, but the nice type), toasted bread crusts, nuts, a bit of cold coffee and mild chocolate. Floral and herbal hops are really faint. Mildly dry aftertaste.
Light body with live carbonation.
Decent. A bit unbalanced leaning too much towards malt (even considering that is part of the style), it could be a tad less sweet. On the other hand malt complexity is sure at the right direction.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
