Idaho Highlands Scotch Ale is our most popular beer! The flavor is rich and malty and sweet, with hints of caramel and smoke. Scotch Ales were historically known as "wee heavy" drinks, due to the warming alcohol content found in even a small serving. Brewed using Pale, Crystal and Carapils malt, it is great with desserts.

Tasted at a ballgame. First sight looked delicious. Bice velvety head. First taste not to happy not thin. Nice notes of carmel & vanilla. Smooth & sweet with the right balance of hops.

Crowler from Tap'n'Fill. Light amber pour, hazy, small foamy head. Malty aroma, toffee, butterscotch. Taste is smooth, malty, mildly sweet. Really good.

I am trying a pint of this beer at a Thai restaurant in downtown Idaho Falls, Idaho. It poured a clear copper with white head that is leaving some lace. The scent had petty malt presence. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with semi sweet caramel malt base with caramel creme and subtle peat and tobacco presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a great beer.

A delicious scotch ale served on-tap in Idaho Falls.
A: Clear pale amber with a soapy white head.
S: Clean malt and fruity yeast.
T: More of the same, lots of sweetness, fruitiness, sweet malt, caramel, clean and crisp without any bitterness or smokiness or woodyness; this is pure malt and yeast.
MF: Clean, crisp, sweet, light-to-medium.
O: Really nice scotch ale; it’s missing some of the signature woody/smoky character I get from most other scotch ales, but the malt profile is delicious.

not a bad example of the style by any means, but this is really sweet, hard to drink a full pint of, and not at all because of the strength, which is pretty well covered up in here, definitely a one and done for me, and the lesser of the two beers i have had from these guys recently. i got one of those pours where the liquid is all the way up to the rim of the glass (not at the brewery), so hard to tell if this has any head at all, but the clarity is impressive and the beer shines a light brassy glow, way way lighter in color than i am used to in the style. it smells like toffee and honey and maple and everything sweet, and thats the way it tastes. i get some toasted and cooked character to the malt, but i dont get the earthy side or the depth i like in the style, and there is no counterpoint to the sugar, from yeast, smoke, hops, minerals, anything, its just sugary beer. the body feels full because of the sweetness, but this is a lighter example of the style as they go, at least in terms of malt character. a bit one dimensional, i want something more from the yeast i think, and i dont just mean more fermentation. just okay for me, despite the fact that it seems to be at every single bar in idaho falls...
