On tap at the brewery, taster.Nice copper color, small ring of head. Sweet malty aroma, rye adds some more depth to the malts here. Taste brings more malty, grainy flavors, with a hint of the traditional rye funkiness. Smooth and creamy.

a really cool beer from these guys, i feel like rye malt lends itself really well to the bock style, but you rarely see it in the world, at least i rarely see it, this was as good as i hoped it would be. its a somewhat lower alcohol than i am used to in a malty bock style, but i kind of like it not being so heavy, strong, and sweet. i can appreciate the pale rye a little more than would be the case in something more robust, and it saves some room for a cool interaction between the earthy peppery rye malt and the lager yeast, which is at once classically german and totally unique in here. fairly understated overall, the rye isnt intense or anything, but it does seem to stand out immediately as something a little different, especially in a rather predictable style like this (most of the time anyway). its smooth to drink, fast finishing for the style, and almost crisp somehow. still sturdy like a bock in body, and with a little bit of a kick from the rye, but all real well balanced throughout. smart beer, clever enough to be unique, but still honors the tradition of the style. impressive!

"Our twist on a classic Maibock brewed with 14% rye. The addition of rye gives a very subtle “spicy” character to the malt profile. It is a full bodied lager with a crisp aroma and smooth malty flavor. Fermented cold, and lagered (cold aged) for an extended time to ensure an exceptionally drinkable beer."
