Cap says Best before 7/31/99
Vintage 98' brought to a bottleshare by MrVonzipper. Who brings a bottle to a bottleshare that expired in 1999? I will tell you who, a guy whose collection is so vast that he feels pity on most of us for never even seeing some of these bottles that he shows up with, not one bottle, but 3, that expired in 1999. Yeah, thats right bitches: suck one.
Look: Caramel in color with no head or carbonation
Smell: Nail polish remover
Taste: Caramel and figs
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with no carbonation
Overall: This beer is past it's prime

Bottle (Pre 1999)
(Aged for 12+ years)
Thanks for sharing, MrVonzipper!
Dark orange and amber with what I swear are gray and murky green edges. The head is thin and light khaki in color and doesn't leave much stick to the glass.
The aroma is a foul cornucopia of nail polish, turned grape juice, and a bit of dirty rose water. A perfume this is not.
A vile flavor of dirty pennies, slight vinegar, and old, soured Diet Sprite.
Thin, somewhat metallic, mouthfeel.
I'm glad I got to try it...I think.

This beers is from somewhere between '96-'98
Clear dark caramel. Surprising decent carb for a 12 year+ old beer
Smells like a little malt and nailpolish. With a touch of raisin.
Tastes like sour nailpolish with a touch of mild lead.
Low to no carb.
Overall it's pretty horrific. If it had a prime, it's far beyond that.

(Transcribed from notes) Tasted by a pint in mid-Nov. 05 at my local JDW pub, the Half Moon, in East London.
A: beautiful caramel to dark-copperish hue, with a 1cm thick creamy, beige-hued beer head leaving a rim of tight lacing... fresh and nice-looking.
S: dark-fruity maltiness with caramel and dark chocolates, underlined by strong scent of citrussy hops, sweetened tangerine peel... Overall quite rich and aromatic nose balanced with healthy dose of caramel-malts.
T: a smooth texture of not-sweet caramel and crystal malts upfront, followed by a bitter, herbal, slightly tea-like hop flavour plus zesty fruity hints with a pinch of salt. The aftertaste sees lots of tangy zest lingering along with char-flavour of dark malts, slightly dryish yet malty... satisfying!
M&D: light-medium bodied for its rich flavour, this is a very quaffable autumn ale, benefiting from the very full hoppyness which lends a solid balance against the equally heavily malty overtone. It's so very enjoyable I wish the York Brewery could make it a regular ale~~
