25oz bottle, snifter.
pours a cloudy orange with a nice head. smell is real yeasty with some good fruity notes. taste is a tad weak, very normal for the style. yeasty with some funky notes, lemon grass. typical. medium bodied, mild carbonation.
overall good saison. not out of the ordinary but recommended.

Appearance: Bright orange color, murky haze with only slight translucence. Even with a vigorous pour, almost no head formed, and the little that did fell off quickly.
Smell: Fruit-like sweetness, wet, grainy. Faint hops, faint alcohol. Not a robust fragrance.
Taste: Mostly sweet with a sour aftertaste, some mild spice, understated but tangible alcohol notes for 8.5% ABV; just enough to remind me I'm not drinking a pedestrian saison from a sixer.
Mouthfeel: Very little carbonation, delivers the brew's spice with a dry finish. Steady delivery of flavor from start to end.
Overall: A decent saison with a little more strength than what is typically available at the local store. With the first pour, I was apprehensive that the lack of a head and subdued smell were signs of a bad bottle or just a bad beer (perhaps long-term bottling with a standard pop-top sometimes produces this effect?). However, the taste and overall effect helped counter the initial judgement. Not disappointing, yet I will probably opt for another new brew to try if I were to see this one again at my go-to craft store.

Smell. Sweet, light orchard fruits and spicy saison yeast with a little bananna.
Taste. Light fruits again, cloves and spice and bit of bananna with that spicy saison yeast. Maybe a little pepper as well. Fairly sweet with a slight acidity.
Mouthfeel. Medium+ body with fine and creamy smooth
Overall. An easy drinker with some nice fruit flavours going on. Drinking this big bottle will not be an issue. Thanks again msquared2!

Had this one on a past ticking trip to Asheville! Served from tap into a sampler snifter. Poured a golden yellow-orange with a one finger white head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly. Maintained phenomenal lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, banana, fruit, spices, and wheat. The flavor was of sweet malt, spice, fruit, banana, clove, wheat, and grain. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty decent brew. I had never actually heard of this brew until I saw it on tap at Thirsty Monk this day. Score one for me on the timing I suppose. All of the right flavors were there for a Belgian influenced saison. However, they didn't work totally in unison like I would have hoped. The clove note really clashed with the rest of the brew in my opinion. Also a little more complexity with maybe a kiss of citrus would have definitely help to cut this slightly. Still not too bad though for the style.

Poured from the bottle into a Chimay goblet.
Appearance: The beer pours a cloudy amber with a golden hue. There is only a small amount of off white head that fades quickly to a ring around the glass.
Smell: The beer has a sweet malty smell that combines with the yeast and reminds me of apple juice.
Taste: A bit more interesting than the smell. The apple juice note is here as well, but I'm getting more yeast spice. There is a bitterness that builds towards the finish. The malt has a mild brown sugar component.
Mouthfeel: The body is just on the thick side of medium with fluffy carbonation and a slightly dry finish.
Overall: I thought the bitterness and sweetness to this beer were a bit heavy handed. I would have liked the fruity notes to be a bit more delicate. I don't think I need more in the future.

This is a simple saison. There was a promise of rye on the label, but it didn't really come through like I was hoping for. The typical yeastiness is present as well as a big malty presence. This is the third saison I've had from Olde Hickory. The saisons haven't been very impressive, but this is still a beer and a brewery worth investigating.
